jumperabv3 - You started this discussion because you were furious with your LL & LA for trying to increase the rent even though it was not allowed in the contract. Now, you are proposing to withhold the last month's rent, even though that is not allowed in the contract, to make sure you get your deposit back. So tell me, if the LL is greedy what does that make you?

If your deposit is protected in a scheme then follow the proper procedures to get your deposit back.

e.g. going on the Bad Tenants Register.

The OP could report the landlord to their local council's private lettings, so that he goes on their bad landlords register.;)
RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

    I don't understand your question.

Is this sarcasm or serious statement? I'm confused ...

    Counterpropose:

Suggest rent is reduced by £40 per week,,,, on the grounds agent is incompetent..

    2 can play that game...

LL & agent will know they probably can't force you out before your planned exit date anyway (what with notices, getting paperwork right, court case, possession order, bailiffs etc..) .. You've a great opportunity to make life really really difficult for them. If you "forget" to pay rent the last few months they'll have really great problems ever getting it back from you (All together now, "Ah, shame...")

Invite LL/LA to view this thread so they can see how they are viewed as a bunch of daft looneys by reasonable and fair people..

    Cheers!

    Artful (LL since 2000)

You think the landlord is greedy for trying to raise the rent, against the terms of the contract. Yet you seem think it is a good idea for you to withhold the last month's rent, against the terms of the contract. So if the landlord is greedy (your description) doesn't that make you greedy as well. Is it ok to live in someone else's property for a month without paying rent?

Maybe the agent has misunderstood the LL.

Perhaps the LL doesn't know anything about this? It wouldn't be the first time a letting agent has done something without the LLs knowledge.

Young lady, what does it have to do with being greedy? I don't get you.

I am trying to make sure I won't get screwed here especially because I move abroad, and if I want I can technically stop paying rent now and still be okay until January.

A few points for you to notice, young lady:

    1) Unlike him I am not asking for more money.
    2) I have no intentions to run away without paying what I owe! I will pay until the last penny but what I owe, not what I don't owe.
    3) No, it is not okay to live in someone else's property without paying rent, not even for 1 day, that's why I will make sure with him he gets paid what he deserves.
    4) Someone here was trying to make a sarcastic statement I took seriously, so as I said I will transfer my money from my UK account offshore (because when I stop being a UK resident I need to close my account) - when I get overseas or on the day of the flight, whatever, I will pay the landlord what I owe him FROM THAT OFFSHORE ACCOUNT, because they allow you to do UK to UK transfers, period.

What does it have to do with being greedy? I'm not asking for more money, so please don't call me greedy young lady, and I suggest think before you call other people in nicknames.

jumperabv3...Don't think your medication is working: Ask your doctor to change the pills maybe??

Were you, perhaps, at some time in the past "hurt" by some "young lady"???

    Just a thought...

It's all very sad really, we must be sympathetic...

Listen, I do not appreciate you or her talking to me in a Vitriolic Tone. I am not an idiot.
