They don't seem to understand that as far as I was aware, I had no bailiff visit and dealt with it on first correspondence from the Bailiff (via second class post). They claim now that because the bailiff can say he has been that is all they need, despite no letter, card or anything through the door.

Do you still have this letter
do you still have the envelope
I am not an expert I am self taught i have no legal training any information I post is based on my own personal experience and information gained from other web sites

I have no letter. The only letter I have is the one that state...you have 7 days to pay, etc dated the 6th July.
I still have that, but not the envelope though.

On that letter, there is no mention of a bailiff's name or visit, or anything.

bradigor, put in a formal complaint to the Council urgently and copy that to the Head of Revenues

Point out that the bailiff has never attended your property, has sent letters via the post and is charging illegal fees.

Just off the phone with the council again (I am going to see my doctor soon, this is causing me such distress and I don't want to do into another spiral of depression).

They claim that the bailiff can describe the property, so that means he has been here.
I stated that he could well come and sit outside all day while I wasn't here. BUT...Notice the BUT (the council didn't get the but) if he doesn't post a card, letter or anything, then I am unaware he has been so cannot act upon it, which means as far as I am concerned, there has been no bailiff visit. He screwed up.

He can also check on streetview and describe the house without going anywhere near it. I use that regularly.

Just for clarity I went through all my mail from the last 2 months and something dawned on me that might screw things up for myself.

I looked and looked and looked. There is NO hand-written letter, no card or anything.
However, last week they said on the phone the visit was on 5th July.
In the last letter I got today, they state they came on 15th and 17th June. We were away visiting my partners parents during that period.
When we got back, we went through all the mail (there wasn't that much actually) and dealt with bits as they came up (hospital appointments, school, etc) and nothing was there. We would of acted if there was.
Could they use us not being at home for a week against us, if they were to look further into it.

Edit: This has got my head all over the place right now... What with my partner in hospital too :(
