My O.H. has a samsung NC10 lap top. Eveything has been running fine until recently when windows internet explorer has just decided to stop loading. When I click the link to load internet explorer the new window comes up and it hangs with the home page email address shown in the very top dark blue bar and "connecting" in the tab. Stangley enough, I am able to update avira through the internet but just can't get internet exploer working. I have also don a system restore back to a month back and that hasn't helped.
Any suggestions would be apprecioated ... thanks

Is there any other way of accessing the internet options other than the "tools" drop down menu. I can get as far as getting the drop down menu but when I click on "internet options" nothing happens before the window closes all by itself ?0

Start, Settings, Control panel - you should see Internet Options there.Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j

Shouldn't be shutting itself down. Might be an idea to check for malware, could be a buggy spyware program or some such. If it's not (obviously) malware related, then it'll just be troubleshooting the various reasons why Internet explorer closes on people.
You may have to transfer some things to the affected computer:
In the meantime, copy over an alternative browser such as Firefox, Opera, or Chrome. There are portable versions available (i.e. no install):

Might be an idea to do a malware scan with Malwarebytes (just a quick scan, and post the log if you don't mind). Clean anything it finds:

As well as a Hijackthis log. Copy this to the desktop, then hold LEFT SHIFT and RIGHT CLICK on it. Afterwards, system scan and save log. The log that comes up in notepad is the one that can be posted here. Don't Fix anything yet.

Trouble is I can't get into onto the internet on my O.H.'s computer to download these apps. Is there a way of doing it on my computer and then putting it onto my OH's ?
I am actually typing on my lap top as I can't access the internet on my wife's.0 -
Yes, you'll have to transfer it over, e.g. USB stick, burn a CD, network shares.0
