Thank you, Annie - and triker - for your thoughts. We really don't feel as though it is a personal loss, in the same way as it was for stormy and others in the thread. Of course it was a loss - he was a decent, caring man and will be sorely missed. Unlike others, though, we have been more 'prepared' for the loss and at least he doesn't have to suffer any more.
Obviously his wife is very distraught - no amount of 'preparation' can compensate for the loss of a husband after 50 years of marriage, and we are trying to do the best for her. He had, funnily enough, been perfectly fit until six months ago and had been talking about moving back to Italy.

Rog, I'm so sorry to hear of you and your family's loss at this time. There is never a good time to loose anyone, and whenever their passing, Christmas seems to bring it all back. I send you all my good wishes for your family and your uncle's wife to manage this awful time, hopefully you are all numb at the moment. I found that I was numb for many many months, then when that wore of, I felt better able to cope. It is amazing how you mind and body cope with tradgedy, but most amazing of all, is how there are people out there (on here), that are basically strangers, that give you the strength and hope to carry on. That you are not alone and, no matter what the time of day or night, people do care, this, for me, has given me so much hope and comfort, I would never have believed possible.
For everyone out there, please give yourselves time and hope, and you WILL get through. It may take years, but pat yourselves on the back every time you make it through another second, minute, hour and day.
Be strong
Love to all

Rog may I add my condolences to you and your family at this difficult time. Like you say it's never easy but must be so much worse at this time of year especially when practical arrangements can not me made to public holidays etc.
Sending hugs to all those who have managed to get through another year and hope you find peace and happiness in 2008. xxOfficial Mascot and Chief Cheerleader for the 'Mortgage Free in Three' Gang0 -

I am hoping to do the same as you Stormy, but as I am at my daughter's house and they have guests coming over, I will just have to go with the flow.
Whatever happens I know I will be looked after. She and her family have been wonderful over Christmas

Thanks everyone, I too will be in bed and hopefully asleep by midnight. New Year has never been a big thing for us anyway, the main thing was for me to ring in the new year on the Church bells with my mum and dad and others. I didn't want to do this last year and couldn't anyway because there was no one to watch A & W . But the nice thing is my niece who is 12 rang last year for the first time and is going to ring again tonight.
Will be glad to get this year over with, being the first full one without Ian. The major hurdle next year is the inquest but I know nothing can be as bad as we have endured so far and with my family and friends both at home and on here we will get through it one step at a time.
Cornish lady if you want no part of the celebrations no one will think any worse of you if you go and sit by yourself. Only you know what you want to do, make sure others know that as well. xxOfficial Mascot and Chief Cheerleader for the 'Mortgage Free in Three' Gang0 -
Hi AnW'sMum,
I'm here with Rosie, and decided to have a glass of wine, I just wanted to sort of toast John before I went to bed, I've had lots of new year wishes, it's a pity that the only wish I want is unable to be here. I'm sure he is somewhere though, looking down on us and wishing us well for 2008. I can't believe a year has gone by and I'm still her and still sort of sane. Thank you so much for everything, you know what I mean, I'm sure. It's lovely that your niece will ring the bells into the new year. I wish you so much strength with the inquest, I can't imagine how hard it will be for you. You have great strength, this I know. Good Luck.
Thanks to all the lovely people on here, you have been so wonderful, I will never ever forget the support and love I have felt, and also to my great friend, Christine, I know she looks at this web site, but not sure if she's read this thread, but if you have Chris, thank you.
Love and peace to you all
Stormy
