Martin will ONLY be writing one more column.
NEWS OF THE WORLD ANNOUNCED IT IS CLOSING FOR GOOD AFTER SUNDAYS EDITION
Sadly for Martin the option to make a real ethical stance was taken from you and you have been lift ankle deep in members disappointment.
I am sure there is an expression about procrastination ...

News of the World to close amid hacking scandal
This Sunday's issue of the News of the World will be the last edition of the paper, News International chairman James Murdoch has said.
In the past few days, claims have been made that the paper authorised hacking into the mobile phone of murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler, the families of 7/7 bombing victims and bereaved military families.
Sky News said proceeds from the paper's last edition would be given to good causes................ Have you ever wondered what
¦OO¬¬ O[]¦ Martin would look like

I hope Martin Lewis realises that the decision to close down the NOW was made before the editor agreed to his request to wite an op ed piece. Will it be published in the last edition? We shall see..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Shame. I'd expected better.
There was an oppurtunity to make a stand and make a real difference, now gone.
Like I said, no surprise there.
Bare minimum to make people get off his back, hopefully they will have forgotten in a couple of weeks time and he can carry on taking the Murdoch shilling.0 -
I think a natural instinct whenever a baying mob start screaming is to do the opposite to what the mob advocate (which is why I don't read the NOTW in the first place). Many people are giving glib responses, ignoring what the original blog was saying and the thinking behind his original position.
But in this case, the mob are right. The NOTW is an appalling rag, even if (and it's a big if) it has cleaned up its act since these events. It is a lowest common denominator medium, feeding the prejudices of its readers and perpetuating the inability of the so-called Great British Public to think for itself.
And now there is an opportunity, unexpected perhaps, to rid the country of the worst excesses of tabloid journalism. Maybe it will happen, maybe it won't. But any potential opportunity - and this is one - to change the way that journalism works in the tabloids and the material that they seek out should be taken.
I think Martin is genuine when he talks about educating the readers of the NOTW about basic finance. And God knows they need it. But the bigger picture is sometimes more important. Financial education, while important, is not as important as taking a step and being seen to take a step away from this rag. It's more important to hurt the NOTW and force it to change than it is to continue to write for it.
Simple as that. Complex issue, I accept, but simple course of action. Resign, now.0 -
Now we can all brush under the carpet how that nice money man off the telly put his own ££ before the country's morals! Let's pop him back up on his pedestal
I am wondering if they did not mention this to you when you "spoke to them earlier" Martin? I know I sound a bit "mean" but I honestly did have so much respect for you given the amount of lives you have turned around with the very good work you do, I was shocked at your stance regarding this paper, I think you underestimated the anger of the everyday public.
Either way, its all good, that nasty rag is off the shelves.Save 8k in 2013: Member #100

Absolutely unbelievable. So you spoke to the editor and he told you the newspaper is different from how it was when Rebekah Wade and Andy Coulson edited it? Wow, who'd have thought?
You're missing some key points here. News International covered up important information. They may have lied to parliament select committees, suppressed information and sanctioned illegal payments to the police. This goes to the heart of the corporation you work for, Martin. It's not a case of the cuddly NOTW you think is now all sweetness and light being in the clear. This is a corrupt institution with an unhealthy amount of negative influence on our country and its politicians.
Anyway, I've just heard that the NOTW is closing. I won't be surprised if you continue to take the Murdoch shilling, Martin, in the name of "spreading financial information" on The Sun's Sunday edition when it launches. Good luck to you, but if you do continue to work for News International I won't visit your site or read your emails any more - your moral judgement is rotten.0 -
News about closing posted while I was typing.
Best news possible.0 -

Breaking news is that this week's News of the world is the last ever one!
I wonder if its because there are even more disgusting ( if possible) leaks to come.
Confirmed in the Guardian
NOTW down, Sun, Sky & the Times to go... but the stain on Martin will remain I'm afraid0 -

James Murdoch is trying to do a PR job. Not that I ever read the NOTW in my adult life, but this decision has just put a huge number of people out of work. But, I bet the Sun will go 7 days a week now. Same crap different package.0 -
Although the cynic in me makes me that News International will launch a new one, with the same staff, in a few weeks' time.
In other words, same paper, different name...0
