Must have kitchen gadgets

Hi all,
I think I'd have a hard time choosing between the dishwasher and the new Kenwood Prospero.
The slowcooker is essential here, I love coming home to a cooked meal after I've been driving for hours in miserable weather

I don't count the dishwasher, as that's essential (and if it went, OH would have to do it, so it doesn't matter anyway). If I asked OH, I think he would say it was the potato ricer. But me, it is either my magimix (expensive, obviously) or my pastry brush (next to nothing but used 2-3 times a week, just like the magimix).Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000

I couldn`t choose just one.
Love my stick blender for smoothies, soups and generally removing lumps from sauces/gravy etc.
Also love my pressure cookers for fast cooking, energy saving and less steam in the kitchen.
Nicer dicer is great for prepping veggies for soup/salad/stir fry.
Use my halogen oven all the time, not used my big oven for nearly 18 months.
The jury is still out on my slow cooker - I love the tender meat but not too sure about slow cooked veg.0 -
I was just having a ponder about this thread (while in the shower, which is where I always end up thinking about random stuff).
What actually counts as an essential gadget, and what's non-essential?0 -
My OH. No question.
Takes up a lot of space and is starting to make peculiar noises, but handles most kitchen tasks admirably.
I second that. Mine is invaluable for reaching, opening, passing and clearing away. Though energy consumption is a little higher than when new and out put is a little lower.
I also recommend a DD/dishwasher combo. Tends to be a little whiney at times but on the whole the dishes get cleaned.Put the kettle on.

I was wondering about this, earlier this evening. I think it very much depends on what angle people are coming from. Life style/time to do certain things/disability etc.angeltreats wrote: »I was just having a ponder about this thread (while in the shower, which is where I always end up thinking about random stuff).

Some won't even feel that a cooker is essential, but someone with a disability, or weakness might feel that a hand blender/food mixer is.
I was trying to think where I'd be coming from personally, and for me, there's nothing that's absolutely essential. I'd struggle without a cooker, or washing machine, but I'd still survive. So, out of those two non-essential items, I'd have to say the cooker

In order of essential non essential
Washing machine
Cooker
Dishwasher
Tumble drier (bad I know but with 2 bed wetters and my own health issues it's needed)
Slicing machine (used mainly for meats & bread)
Potato ricer ( I used to buy made mash if we had it as I can't mash potatoes
)
Food processor
Rest I could do without really, especially the biscuit maker, pasta machine etc etcOne day I might be more organised...........

I do have a kenwood chef. It makes the most excellent bread, what a doddle. All this waffle that I see about the mystery of bread making, there isn`t any. Just good fresh ingredients, a kenwood and an oven. It beast the time wasting slog of hand kneading0

I see a few people have potato ricers. Are they worth the space for a couple of people?
I only ask because I did mash yesterday and the potatoes were very mushy first, then I dried them before mashing so they didn`t take any effort.0
