I may have to streamline my kitchen soon and would like some advice. The following I see as things I cant live without, and are fairly portable please can you let me know if I have forgotten something important thank you.

Why do you have to take all that food? Are there not going to be shops where you're going? I can see you say you don't want to be spending OH's money but putting the present food budget cash into a seperate savings account would be a lot more portable, surely? And if you're not working and don't have kids to look after or gardening to do, you might be quite keen on a trip to the shops just to break the day up.
Also why are you budgeting for white goods; don't you have them already?0 -

The things in your list which, to my mind, just take up precious space on the worktop but can easily be disposed of are
Slow Cooker - a good casserole as others have said will be more useful
Breadmaker - it's just as quick to make bread by hand. Should I say it's quicker - and it you've got a freezer you can make a couple of loaves at a time and freeze the extra.
Microwave - I know loads of people would disagree with me, but I've always thought they were very over-rated. But that's just my own humble opinion.0 -
Food Processor, but you have all the blenders so may not need one.Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.0

Sorry for the silly question - what are white goods?A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

If you have an oven and hob, that's the first thing I'd ditch
If you don't have an oven and hob - they would be first on my list, with a lidded casserole dish :T
Penny. x
Oh dear Penny, are you not a fan of the SC.
A SC is cheeper on electric and cooking food for longer makes meat so very tender. I put mine on @ breakfast time and leave it on all day knowing I will have a hot meal at teatime even if I have been out all day.
JulieIf winter comes, can spring be far behind?
Spring begins on 21st March.0 -
Very personal choice, but I would swap the SC for a pressure cooker as more versatile. I got rid of my SC as I found the PC did in 20 mins what the SC did in 6 hrs, and I could never quite get out of my head that when I'm out, my cats might start investigating something smelling lovely! Also steam puddings/cook potatoes in minutes etc, and takes up hob space rather than bench space and I like lots of empty bench space! As ever on here, horses for courses.0

The reason for the streamline is that we may be going into forces married quarters so I will be catering for just me (and OH at weekends and when he is home) My intent is to make for him what he wants when he is home and to live as sensibly as possible when he is not.
I'm not really sure why you need to streamline.. I have lived in MQ for 5 yrs now and my kitchen is not very streamlined... In fact it is totally the opposite!
And I dont get the stocking up either, For me, its more important when dh is away that I am not stocked up, just to make sure I get out and about the the shops to pick up milk etc.. When in the UK I used to do an online shop for the heavy stuff, and use vouchers to cover the delivery cost, and now here in Gib I just buy things in smaller amounts so that I dont have to lug heavy stuff about on the bus..0 -
It sounds like you are stocking up for a siege. Where are these married quarters, Alaska?
My brother in law was in the RAF at Cranwell and I don't recall their house being any smaller than mine.0
