Finally got around to changing the title.
Why is it that some sites allow you to do this and others don't? :mad:There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
20YRS since i last bought a newspaper and that was the morning star,,,It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -

No, you're right, all circumstantial, apart from the investigators who seem to have turned witness, the accusations not denied, and the owner shutting down the title... Let's put it like this, the arrows all point in exactly one direction...0 -
Ah. I wasn't going to get involved in this thread, just lurk a little. But this I have to respond to.
This is a gross over-generalisation and completely unfair. I'll lay my cards on the table now and say that years ago I was in fact a journalist for a number of years. Not with the NOTW or anything like that, just a few local papers.
The majority of journalists in the country just do their job through good-old fashioned hard work.
If these allegations are proved correct then of course it's abhorrent but please don't lump all journos under the same rock.
Of course, it's worth remembering that these 'reptilian' journalists keep our great and good on their toes - how about MP's expenses? If it wasn't for a journalist, you'd never have known. And if the local council did something silly like stick bollards across your driveway, chances are you'd be on the phone to the local paper pretty sharpish - or at least phoning the council threatening to.
Now before you come at me with your pitchforks and burning torches, read what I have just said carefully. If the allegations are true, they are shocking and disgusting. I am as aghast and disgusted as all of you. I'm not condoning that kind of behaviour.
Just don't tar all journalists with the same brush.
Rubbish...All journalists are lazy and just rehash what rubbish public relation firms have sent them...fact,,,find me a investigative journalist and i will say he is dead and long gone.
Most stories are pulled off the wire word for word with spelling mistakes.
ps it was freedom of information campaigner Heather Brooke. who started the expenses scandal via a freedom of information refusal.
A February 2008 Freedom of Information Act request for the release of details of MPs' expenses claims was allowed by an Information Tribunal. The House of Commons Authorities challenged the decision on the grounds that it was "unlawfully intrusive".[6] In May 2008, the High Court (England and Wales) ruled in favour of releasing the details of MP's expenses claims.[7][8] In April 2009 the House of Commons authorities announced that publication of expenses, with certain information deemed "sensitive" removed,[9] would be made in July 2009.[10] However before this could take place, a full uncensored copy of the expenses records and documentation was leaked to the Daily TelegraphIt is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?

They have only turned witness in the cases of phone tapping into celebs.. and maybe politicians - which is where NoTW have paid out substantial sums.
can you prove to me anywhere that they have been proven to have hacked into the others phone records?
As far as the real story go's they ahve only found phone numbers of the dowlers and the relatives of the july bombing victims on the PIs files - no eveidences of any wrongdoing yet.
unless of course you can prove to me you have got evidence of this?
I mean i have numbers of some of the 7/7 victims families - they gave me them to keep in contact as they know i was first on the scene and tried to help - do i now get slung in the same boat then Paddy? Am i one of these terrible people who may or may not have accessed the worthless voicemails?
thanks.
You seem to know all the facts - can you provide them to me please. Right here and right now?
Just post below with the FACTS you have and then that will be cool with me.one of the famous 50 -
Wow- This site is full of left-wing liberal Guardian readers. Nothing that the NoTW has done is half as despicable as the brainwashing the Guardian has done over the years.
The Sun will continue to increase in circulation. It will have a sunday edition and I will buy 10 just so I can sneer at you Guardian readers.0 -

Oh OK I'll swallow the expenses thing - credit where credit is due but the above statement is a) completely untrue and b) shows you have no actual knowledge of what you are talking about.
If I had rehashed a press release and tried to submit that, my editor would have thrown it back in my face. I worked damn hard for my stories - as do hundreds of journalists across the country. It's a hard, often miserable, and poorly paid job, until you hit the upper echelons. You do it because you love it.
In my time I was threatened with violence, shouted at, abused - all to break stories that were in the public interest. May I remind you that around the world the so-called 'lazy journalists' you speak of are actually killed for doing their jobs with shocking regularity, because they dared to shine a light on injustice?
Believe me, if rewriting PR puff pieces was all it was about then my life would have been much easier - but nowhere near as satisfying.0 -

I stopped reading The Sun after hillsborough and will now cease buying The NOTW after this scandal but im keeping my Sky tv.
Just because they all come under the same umbrella is not a reason to boycott them all.
And another thing, do we now boycott this site because Martin Lewis has a column in the NOTW?
You make an excellent point - this organisation (News International, not MSE!) has been allowed to near monopolise the media. I naively thought that only happened in dictatorships.Ronaldo_Mconaldo wrote: »Tirns out that Martin has his column with the paper, and to be honest who would be surprised? He likes to get himself on every tv and radio station going. Anyway, he's come to the difficult conclusion thst he'll keep his column in the paper after all. Maybe you could try boycotting this forum to help him out.
Very well said.Gone ... or have I?0 -

But you will be the one whose wasted his money on 10 copies of something that is useless unless you need to wipe your backside. :rotfl::rotfl:
