Got to be honest, I buy The Sun and NOTW as it is perfect tittle-tattle fodder. I don't take anything in it seriously.
But, from this week, not anymore. They can shove it.Comping wins this month: 2 x business class flights anywhere we like | Horse vitamins (!) | New kettle | Motorcycling prints | Signed LPs | Thanks to all!0 -

I'm "judging" them based on the people I know who buy those papers and the reader profiles that News International produce for advertisers, which confirm my thoughts.
They are the sort of people who never wonder why the stories shown on the front page very rarely come true. Who gullibly respond to reader offers. Who avidly watch soap operas but rarely the news. etc etc.0 -

These are my thoughts exactly. Call me silly, but I don't read a newspaper for the news - if I want that I'll turn on the telly.
I like to read about what celebrity has been up to what etc. etc. and I looooove reading about Bill, the 90 year old who's had a paper round since he was 12 without a day off.
However, this Milly Dowler business is AWFUL and I won't buy the Sun or NOTW again because of it.0 -

My word, there is nothing like a bit of generalisation.Member 105 of 1% at a time - 23/100 :j0 -
My word, there is nothing like a bit of generalisation.
Yes, people don't necessarily read the Sun and NoW because they are a**eholes.
They are both written so that they can be read by people with a reading age of, IIRC, 8.
People read them because they are not challenging and are full of the sort of tittle-tattle they like. Not because they are heartless bast**ds.
The people who write and publish them, however ...There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
My word, there is nothing like a bit of generalisation.
But that is who they are marketed to and marketed successfully (ie who News International think are their readers). Its not a judgement but a reflection.
Interestingly the topic of the readership was just discussed on the BBC News channel. A person from Marketing Week was asked what would happen to the sales figures on Sunday. She replied that without being derogatory, the type of people who read the News of the World do not understand the issues behind phone hacking, they are interested in whether Cheryl is back with Ashley Cole.
There was also discussion of how it would require carefully planning by people like Ford and Butlins. when they eventually return to advertising.0 -
It's just getting worse by the day.
I read in the free transport newspaper (Metro) that police visited the families of the 2 girls killed in Soham just a couple of months ago.
Speculation also around Sara Payne & Madeline McCann's families phones.
BBC News today are talking about the 7/7 bombings victims' phones also maybe being hacked.
Halifax & Virgin holidays have withdrawn advertisements for this weekend, not wishing to be seen to be associated with this 'newspaper'.0 -

This.
I used to buy the sun and NOTW to amuse me at lunch in work, or for general giggles. Quick, cheap, easy read - cheap magazine basically.
I absolutely deplore what they have done and will not spend a penny of my money on their paper ever again. :mad:0 -

Please do not try and justify your pathetic generalisation.0
