Hmm... maybe that's it - 3 credit cards already held; is that a lot?

I actually had 3, and I was afraid it was too much, but it wasn't. I am sure they have some formula based on how much you earn and how many cards allowed. One card might be too many for some incomes, for others 5 wouldn't be too much.

I do know I'm now going to cancel two of our cards (we only use one, so those other two unused cards could be a hinderince in future just because they are on the books). If you have cards you don't use, you might consider canceling one or two.

I said 5 credit cards and my husband was still accepted.

They didn't ask how much we owe on them.

We have a lot of debt, and only chose this card for the possible cashback and to use their 0% deal (but only for a small amount, because the 2.5% repayment is more difficult than our other cards who ask for 1%) .

If they'd looked at our debt they'd have realised they'll never make more out of us than the balance transfer fee.

Anyone managed to get their platinum instead of their classic credit card by any chance?

    another online reject here :(
will receiving the online rejection affect your credit rating?

I have not had a card for over five years. Have not moved recently, have one catalogue account that I pay in full when the interest free period ends (current spend on it £50) and have no other loans.

I have only just applied for my first ever contract phone in the past couple of days (thanks to the deal posted on MSE!) could this have affected my application?

I don't know much about creit scores etc but could receiving debt chasing letters here for the previous home owner impact on your rating?

as strange as it sounds...you might have been declined because your rating isn't high enough, due to NOT having borrowed enough over the years. you build up a high rating by borrowing, mortgages, credit cards, loans etc (and not defaulting). the fact that you haven't borrowed much might mean to some lenders that it's uncertain how good/bad you might be at paying it back...as you have no proven track record.

Yes it would affect your score if you are rejected. So you shouldn't apply for another credit card for around 6 months.

Debt from previous owner should not affect your rating.

thanks for credit rating info. My OH was panicked that the sudden number of letters we had started getting for the previous owner would cause us problems. we keep returning them but they keep sending them!

we overpay on the mortgage as much as possible now and we were lucky enough to pay off both our credit cards and one loan over five years ago now. I never thought of not borrowing enough going against an application.

I saw this in the T and C, has any one taken out insurance?????

In order to obtain the credit or to obtain it on the terms and conditions marketed, you must take out:
    - an insurance policy securing the credit; or
    - another ancillary service contract.

If we do not know the costs of these services they are not included in the APR. If your application is accepted, you will be eligible for free purchase protection insurance underwritten by AXA Insurance UK plc in respect of your credit card agreement. ?

Darkrev: I didn't tick this (didn't actually see it!). So perhaps that's why I'm now 'pending'. Hmm. Just have to wait a few days to see.
