we overpay on the mortgage as much as possible now and we were lucky enough to pay off both our credit cards and one loan over five years ago now. I never thought of not borrowing enough going against an application.
I don't know that you have to actually owe money, maybe just that you just have to use credit in some way even if you pay it off? We use our credit card for everything, but pay it off in full each month so never pay interest. We also aren't buying a car, and rent rather than have a mortgage. And our credit rating is good even without owing money. But we do have a credit history because we use that card all the time, and your income figures into it all too.0 -

Be careful when filling in the application. There is a check box asking if you would pay for the EXTRA insurance that they charge per year. All credit cards have purchase protection already, so not many ppl would actually need the extra insurance which cost additional fee per year.0 -
anyone had it tracked on quidco yet?0

will receiving the online rejection affect your credit rating?
I have not had a card for over five years. Have not moved recently, have one catalogue account that I pay in full when the interest free period ends (current spend on it £50) and have no other loans.
I have only just applied for my first ever contract phone in the past couple of days (thanks to the deal posted on MSE!) could this have affected my application?
I don't know much about creit scores etc but could receiving debt chasing letters here for the previous home owner impact on your rating?
As others have already said, it could be the fact that you don't have much credit to prove if you are a good risk - you need to have credit to build up your credit score.
Also, if you've done nothing for 5 years and suddenly applied for a mobile phone contract and this card in a short space of time, that might have an impact.
Thirdly, YES receiving debt letters at your address for someone else CAN have an impact on your credit score. Even though it's not your debt, I'm sure the fact that it's your address can affect your rating. It might be worth checking your credit rating with one of the Credit Reference Agencies, just to make sure the previous occupant's bad debt isn't in some way affecting your score.0 -
Still waiting - been about two hours.0

Mine hasn't tracked yet with tcb either.0

Quickest and easiest application I've ever made. Only took about three seconds before it popped up 'approved' too which was nice. Fingers crossed the cashback tracks.0

Thanks LutonMatt for the link. I've also been approved - hopefully it will track.0

Well, stone the crows! This morning in the post I've got my Post Office credit card PIN - having been given the "we'll write to you" message on Monday or Tuesday; whenever I applied ( see post #16 )
No "we've thought about it & decided" just welcome & here's your PIN, so hopefully the card'll be with me soon!
Hope all who got same initial message get the same result... now to keep an eye on the TCB tracking.0
