Nursery and Trips Out

Is it me, or does any1 else think that this is wrong, basically my 3yr old daughter is going on a school trip (cost £13 includes coach there and back (obviously), morning and afternoon snack. We have to provide a packed lunch for her - i would have thought that nursery should provide a packed lunch for her as we are paying for them to look after her - or am i being petty in thinking that if she wasnt going on this trip they would have to provide her with a lunch....

If part of the contract is that the school usually provides lunch for her(as in she stays at school for the day and lunch is normally provided) then I would of expected them to provide a packed lunch too, otherwise no.

I think that once in a blue moon you could pop a sandwich, packet of crisps and a bar of chocolate into a lunch box for her without creating too much fuss if I'm completely honest.

Have they got the facilities on this trip to make a lunch whilst they are out? Access to a kitchen, dining table, pots and pans - that sort of thing? If yes, then they could well provide a lunch for the kids. If no, then no.

If it is a school as you say in your post what are you paying and what for?

At a private nursery if a charge is made for lunches as part of the overall monthly cost, I would expect them to put together a packed lunch for the children (or refund the daily charge for lunch?). My experience of a school environment (secondary not nursery) is that pupils receiving free school meals can request a free packed lunch from the school but otherwise the children bring their own.

Am guessing OP refers to the former so I can see your point.

Nursery children are not eligible for free school meals. Some LAs do provide them at their own cost as part of flexible entitlement arrangements but it is very much the exception.
