Bosch Siemens Neff Dishwashers 1999-2005 Fire Hazard

I posted on this thread last week asking for help to find the model number, forummers reply was to look on inside of door but still couldn't see it so called out local repair man to fix dishwasher. He found the number straightaway and I told him about the fire hazard. He said that he had never heard about it ! While he was dismantling the machine I looked on the Bosch website and my model number wasn't there BUT the control panel was burnt out and sooty. I phoned the Bosch helpline while the repairman was there and they said he was to leave it alone and they would send their own engineer out to fix it free of charge and not to use it in the meantime. I wonder if this is a 'one-off' for my model or if many more unsuspecting people have unsafe dishwashers ?
ps number on door was very faint

Any idea where he found the number? I can't find the number on mine, but it was bought in 2008, so it should be OK according to the helpline.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. he found the number on the inside of the door at the top on the 'silver' part, he had to use a torch, it was very faint, not engraving like you would put on a trophy or jewellry, not 'scratched' in, more like painted on.0

Had no call to arrange repair so phoned them up again, said they had no record of call, contacted customer services who had no record and said that as d/w was not on the list of affected appliances it could not be repaired free of charge even though it was burnt out and i had been given incorrect information from the contact centre. I have already paid the repair man £48.00 for his call out and inspection and canot use the dishwasher, I have sent in a comlpaint to Bosch and am b****y mad about the whole thing !0

I got the safety notice informing me of the need for a repair in the post on 6 August, and tried to register online, but ended up phoning. Engineer came out today and replaced the control board. I think I bought it in 2004 so it has worked perfectly for 7 years.
I have a Bosch washing machine, tumbler drier and kettle, but I usually buy for quality / features not the brand. I think I'll still buy Bosch in future.

My control board swap took about 20 minutes.
Interestingly the "engineer" was required to check that the electrics were OK in the kitchen. [ie the live and neutral had not been swapped over and the earth worked etc.]0 -
Many thanks for the tip off. I'm affected and will be arranging an appointment.
Took me far too long to arrange it, but finally did so. There was a delay of about 2 weeks for the first available appointment. I got a text message reminder the evening before and first thing on the day, and a phone call from the repair chap about 15 minutes before he arrived. It took about 20 minutes and was no difficulty whatsoever.
The only bind is that they don't give a morning or afternoon time slot, so they could arrive any time between 9am and 5pm, subject to the short advance notice.0 -
The bloke swapping the control panel was self employed (I'm pretty well sure) and phoned me early in the morning. I was able to tell him I would be in all day.
We had a few jokes about panic stricken customers and the task being a nice little earner, because he had been able to become slick at it, given that the job could be done just by flapping down the door.
The only mistake I had made, was failing to hold back some washing up to test it realistically, the moment he had finished:D0
