Jane.tweedynn wrote:Just looked at the MFI sale and it is very poor.
I have been tracking certain items over the last 6 months and at the moment they are very expensive.
We are now in a position to purchase these items but we will wait until the prices come down to at least the same as July. In future I aim to buy in November.
I still have the price list from July if anyone wants me to check what an item listed at during this sale.
"From 1 March the total cost of your MFI order must be over £500 (it's currently £250) so it's worth checking your Deals statement now to make sure you'll reach that level in time. If not, use them for something else.
Then, MFI is leaving the Deals brochure completely on 30 April so anyone collecting for MFI vouchers must have ordered the vouchers and made their purchases by then."

Yeah, we have just checked the MFI 'Sale' on the website and agree it is a bit of a con (surprise).
We want the Space Black kitchen (this is the only kitchen that we both really like-we have put up with our old one for 12 years, and it was in already when we moved in!)
When we were quoted in Oct, with 20% off, one of the wall units was £225 reduced from £300. Now they are half price with 20% off, but the price is still around £220 - guess what? They are saying original price was £600 - FOR ONE UNIT!!! Dont think so!!!
So we will probably be paying same price we were quoted in October. We never got round to ordering a kitchen, and then thought we might as well wait for January Sales. Good thing is, most of it will be paid for with Tesco Clubcard points, so fair enough
Just wanted to point out, like rest of this thread, how they seem to cook the figures and get away with it. We still have the last price list, so will go armed with that this week
Anyway - Merry Christmas everyone, and a massive Thank You to everyone who contributes to the site. A bit heads up to Martin for the site in the first place - I for one would be a lot worse off without it!!0 -

Everyone is getting a bit savvy to the prices. They dont see it. When I worked there they were put out by a which survey which monitored the prices and found the same as you. They have been taken to court by trading standards twice on the prices but they were able to prove to the letter they kept within the 28 day guide lines.
Main thing they do is always 50% off. This is the normall price. they then add an extra offer such as.
50% + 20% off (then they extend it) towards the end of the offer near the wednesday you can get a back pocket offer of free washing machine, or free flip down TV
50% + no VAT (works out 15% off ie £85 + vat = £100) sounds good as people think they get 17.5% off which is vat. They also have a back pocket deal where they can offer the other 5%
next is the "out off sale" offer. This is normally buy one get one free. So the price doubles but you get one free. This lets them put the item back up to the "Normal" price thus keeping to the law regarding an item being offered for at least 28 days in the preceeding 12 months at the full price.
If you read my earlier post you will be able to see if they are offering you the extra offers. The main thing is dont be pressured to buy on the day and get some other quotes. I would always go to MFI, B&Q and Homebase and if you go towards the end of the offer on the last wednesday evening you should be able to get a few hundred extra quid off as the salesman will be in his top tier of commission by then and will be very determined to get your order.0 -
Just been and ordered some office furniture. Was going to order a couple more items but was then told that MFI DO NOT give refunds on any unwanted items. That put a stop to that. Will order at a later date if necessary.
**BERTIE**Did you Know: It costs more than £325,000 a day to run the lifeboat service? (with no government funding) Please donate to the RNLI0 -
mfi are not cheap, and the quality is distinctly so so. The sales are a con, we retail kitchens very near an mfi and everyone expects us to be much more expensive when they visit our showroom. we do custom made kitchens, you want wall units 2 inches deeper no probs and colour coordinated carcases with solid backs rigid kitchens. we did a price for a client before christmas, against cheapie hygena and we were within 10% for the gloss, so try a local specialist usually no false sales and maybee cheaper than you think. plus our smeg appliances are always cheaper than them0

before anyone posts this is not a sales pitch just a reccomend to check out local showrooms too0

humfer wrote:Just checked their website and they have the usual 'up to half price sail' plus extra 20% off. Offers end 03/01/2007. That seems at bit soon - do you reckon they will extend it? Table and chairs I was waiting on have only been reduced by about 15%....Oh well still good with Tesco vouchers I suppose....
Even if I had Tesco vouchers I would give this sale a miss. Loire Double Wardrobe £399, £148 more than in November when it was £251.
Can you not redeem your Tesco vouchers back into clubcard points and use them for something else. At the end of the day, clubcard vouchers or no clubcard vouchers this sale sucks.0 -
compmad1 wrote:Is anyone planning on buying MFI stuff before the 3/1/07 deadline comes into effect? Is anyone worried in case the prices go up and you miss the 20% reduction? Am I being paranoid?
have had my eye on a siemens electric oven and now with the 20% off has come down to a very competitive price. So much so that I was going to purchase outright with Tesco vouchers arriving in Feb but am tempted to buy now with cash+vouchers. Don't remember them knocking down appliances before but then again only been keeping an eye for the last 6-12 months.0 -

Siemens are good part of the bosch neff brand. I think if you register online or send off the warranty card you get an extra years warranty so dont buy the 3 years extended warranty they will try and sell you.0 -
