MFI Sale Now On

Just checked their website and they have the usual 'up to half price sail' plus extra 20% off. Offers end 03/01/2007. That seems at bit soon - do you reckon they will extend it? Table and chairs I was waiting on have only been reduced by about 15%....Oh well still good with Tesco vouchers I suppose....

Plus how does the +20% off everything work. Supposedly on everything if you spend £99 online or £199 instore. Have just tried to add one table and 2 stools but doesn't take any more discount off. Am I misunderstanding the offer? The table and stools are by The Chair Company so maybe they are exempt
  • Hi Humfer

I would personally say to wait. I base this upon my partners past experiences working for a similar kitchen company, targets will need to be met for Jan and they won't do that by 3/1/07 so I would suggest the sales will get better and better.

As for chairs and the Chair company, a piece of advice : We too were looking to puchase in the last sale they had (finished mid - late Nov as I recall) and the chairs only came into the sale in the last week or so. Unfortunately we had not had time to receive and convert our Tesco vouchers and thereby missed the opportunity. Immediately at the sales end, the Chairs increased in price from £210 to £263 per pair. Conveniently the chairs, with current reduction are now priced at £210.42..... it's disgusting when companies do things like this!!!!! I have seen other products where the price has risen by about 20-25% also, what a surprise.

Oh well enough ranting....it'll just be more pleasurable when we fleece them at the 'real' end of this sale. For info the chairs I mention above dropped from £210 to approx £160 at the end of the last sale (but don't quote me on that).

    I'll let you decide....Good luck.

Is anyone planning on buying MFI stuff before the 3/1/07 deadline comes into effect? Is anyone worried in case the prices go up and you miss the 20% reduction? Am I being paranoid?

We wanted to buy a table and chairs in the 'sale' that ended in Nov too. Did not get the Tesco vouchers converted in time! Package was approx. £400 in the 'sale', day after it ended it was £950ish!!!!! Spoke to the assistant who told me to wait as it would be back down to the £400 on Boxing Day. What a rip off!! They only do this so they can legally say 'OVER 50% OFF' etc etc.

Hi I have posted on MFI before, some tips below:

I used to work as a Sales Manager at MFI and If I was you I would go to the following:

Sainsburys Homebase (keep an eye out for 10% off fridays)
MFI - keep an eye out for 25% - 30% off all items, I will cover more later.
    B&Q.

Get 3 plans done. Pick your best one and then ask them all to price based on that, they wont mind doing it as long as you have a list of what you need. Often refered to as a "Larry List".

Play one against the other to get a good price.

With MFI always ask to see what their back pocket deals are. You will see it flash up on the screen, if they tab past it they are not offering them to you. Often they are a free dishwasher or extra 5% off. Some sale people offer you this as an incentive to comit on the day or have finance. Dont take either. Make sure if you do buy from MFI you have a clubcard as you get a few hundred quid of deals. You moan about the delivery price and say you will collect from store rather than pay delivery.(obviously you wont but helps them to remove the £30-£60) Also read the charter that they want you to sign and cross out bits you dont agree with. One final thing is if you delivery comes and there are a couple of things missing dont refuse the delivery as they often courier down the missing bits. Also sign boxes look ok but contents unchecked to cover you for damage. Plus dont book your fitter until 3-4 weeks after you have your first delivery or make sure he wont charge you if he has to come back and fit some stuff.

PS dont feel pressured into buying when they say offer ends wednesday as there is always a new offer. Dont buy when its bogof as they double prices and deal isnt as good.

  • Just looked at the MFI sale and it is very poor.

I have been tracking certain items over the last 6 months and at the moment they are very expensive.

I want a Loire free standing double wardrobe. In July they wanted £263, the price then went up to £280 before coming down to £263 in October and then £251 in November. Then in December the price went up to £998 (lol), now with half price and an extra 20% off it is retailing at £400.

I also want the Checkmate Single Divan. In July this retailed at £180, then the price went up to £200 before coming back down to £180 in October and then £160 in November. No surprise that in December the price went up to £500 and now with the half price and an extra 20% off the price is £200.

We are now in a position to purchase these items but we will wait until the prices come down to at least the same as July. In future I aim to buy in November.

I still have the price list from July if anyone wants me to check what an item listed at during this sale.
