Why shouldn't a company compete on price?
Companies compete on price or service in many fields0 -
Buying at 0p you would still incur postal charges. Selling it back to them at a minimum of 30p and likely max of less than £1.80 might mean a small profit, but probably not worth the effort.
Finding obscurities and "offering" them would involve reading barcodes. Few people have the patience to collect and then input the number needed to make any return on this. And what if someone was to send them that item the next day? Having said that, specialising in specific genres could work, particularly those likely to appeal to collectors, rather than casual buyers.
Incidentally Zoverstocks etc do get it wrong sometimes, I picked up a rare disc for about a third of the expected price because nobody had established its market worth.0 -

Yeah, had this too and like you it's because we have the better information. I got a boxset for £8 where it had always been £40+ everywhere for years on end. I think they'd had a bit of a guess due to the barcode not really registering in Google (an alarm bell for many privates sellers to make them think thay have a rarity -or they just get lazy and list it when the closet item code).
Estocks/Zoverstocks also post Amazon.com stuff from the Channel Islands with me which has also brought up some incredible bargains because they have much more competion in the US/Canada. Of course you have to figure in the higher Amazon.com shipping but it was still a massive saving.0 -

I'm self employed on ebay full time also and in the category I sell in, there are loads of sellers and loads of different prices for each different item, yet we are all getting sales.
So just because this other company knocks their prices down by 1p cheaper than yours, surely if a potential customer sees the listings, they would rather pay 1p more for a better service than 1p less for a bad service.0 -
that"s why zoverstocks always seem to be the cheapest on amazon for DVD CDs etc. I used to buy from them but don"t anymore because items are often not as good as they described or don"t turn up at christmas, Now I always order from other mainly small sellers even if they sell for a bit more as they"re much better.0

I tend to go for the seller above them, unless the next seller is selling the item with something fishy in the description box (ex-rental DVD, ex-library CD, doesn't come with booklet etc).
I ordered a CD from them for the first time in a while, I had a bad experience with the next cheapest (American seller) and zover to them is in another world, at least it doesn't take 5 weeks for the item to arrive.0 -

Just have your own website
People who buy on price will all ways get burnt
Quality costs
I usually read all a sellers recent feed back and statistics first
Things like bad weather and busy times will distort any ones feed back0 -
I can't advise on how to deal with estocks, but it's interesting to hear they are zoverstocks by another name - and NO surprise! Here's an example of how they treated me recently, after having accepted my order on Amazon:
The bare bones are:
23/12/12 - I ordered a used, 10-disc box set: "The Legendary John Wayne - 20 Westerns Collection 10 DVD Box Set [DVD]."
I was told it was despatched on 24/12/12.
I received only 1 of the 10 discs; I sent an email to this effect on 29/12/12. I received an apology by return email on the same day; assured the set was being marked for despatch that day. Asked to return wrong disc, I posted it back on 31/12/12.
I waited until 13/1/13 to allow for holiday period; no box set arrived.
I sent another email to Zoverstocks: never got a reply.
Sent another email on 18/1/13; still never got a reply.
I very reluctantly sent a claim to Amazon on 22/1/13; the repayment of my money was authorised almost immediately.
This made me suspicious, so I checked for availability of the box set on Amazon.
The used box set of the same 10 discs was still for sale from Zoverstocks - but the PRICE HAD TRIPLED!! £7.98 had become £24.66!
Even more oddly: There were other used sets available from other sellers - but the prices of ALL OF THEM had ballooned dramatically. This made me wonder whether the sellers might be related, in some way!
I've made various purchases from zoverstocks in the last couple of years, and would have expected to make many more - but there will be NO more.
For the sake of a few pounds, they blew big holes in their own feet - and badly, at that, because I average buying 3-4 blu rays & DVDs every week.
Why don't they want people to buy from them, though? I realise they do a lot of business, but they won’t be doing it for much longer if they continue to treat people like this. They must think they’ve become too big to be hurt by mugs who buy from them; I find their attitude to be somewhat myopic, and quite bizarre.0 -
Better than getting the usual order cancellation email saying the product has failed quality control checks a few days after it's marked as being posted.0

Hi, I read with much interest the whole of this thread and understand fully your concerns, the same of which I had 3 months ago however i've turned it on it's head and have done quite the opposite of what I started to do. I NOW BUY THE GAMES from ESTOCKS at such a ridiculous price then sell them on EBAY with my normal BUY IT NOW price and my sales have rocketed. I have now purchased over 2000 games directly from ESTOCKS and have sold at least 1000 of those games over the last 3 months at my normal selling price. The beauty of this is that I get vast ranges of stocks and large quantities of the same games and my EBAY Shop is constantly packed full of great games. Having had a shop on EBAY for 10 years now trade is probably at the best it's ever been at that's predominantly down to buying from ESTOCKS. I have regular customers that purchase through me for the high level of service that I offer and customer satisfaction and that is certainly something that ESTOCKS do not offer. TURN IT ON ITS HEAD, you don't need to compete on price you need to up your level of high service and you will soon see ESTOCKS as a benefit rather than a hindrence. Good Luck. Craig0
