They do not leave their own feedback. Amazon/Play/eBay would have noticed and chucked them off a long time ago if that were the case.

Why don't you order something cheap (1p + postage) from them and see how long it takes to turn up?

They would really have no way of knowing if it was left under a different name. Neither would amazon probably care too much, even from their own feedback amazon still get their cut from those orders.

I very much doubt they buy their own items to leave feedback. They sell a lot because they are cheap, dirt cheap. If you check out Music Magpie it says if an item isn't in an acceptable condition it won't be paid for or returned, I wonder if it gets sold on though?

They pay peanuts on MM, use software to ensure they are the cheapest (not just cheaper than business sellers but cheaper than private sellers who will often come in at a low price to get shot of their stuff quickly) and can take a hit on some items, as long as the books are in the black at the end of year who cares if the odd item was sold at a loss?

They have a very good business model, sadly it doesn't seem to include customer service (judging by their feedback). However it is consumers who have caused this. Brand loyalty with media is very limited and on deals websites I've seen people comment on cancelling a pre-order because another retailer is 15pence cheaper. Pushing for cheaper and cheaper prices only results in this type of behaviour from retailers so if you are one of those who always shop on price and have no brand loyalty, don't come bleating about poor service.

Just to add to this I suspect the reason for a lot of their poor feedback regarding long delivery is due to them selling the same thing on several outlets. If it sells on two sites before they run an update they are stuffed until someone sells them another via MM. They also lie about the location of goods stating they are coming from the England rather than Guernsey and Guernsey post is a fair bit slower than Royal Mail.

Zavvi (aka TheHut Group) had both of these issues when first selling on eBay and were booted out of the Outlet program, they seem to have addressed this by in the main specifically setting aside the stock they have listed on eBay and setting the correct location for goods sent from Guernsey.

estocks are also certainly zoverstocks as their business seller details identify them as Music Magpie.

And if they don't have it in stock they will send an email saying "sorry it didn't meet quality standards".

At the level of the larger sellers, it is not uncommon to leave yourself feedback to give a boost if the overall ratings was coming down slightly. we dont do that but some suppliers who also sell online have admitted this in the past. obviously it would be now and again, not constantly.

Maybe these guys do that too, maybe not. I dont know.

in terms of stock levels, most of the software now is 99% accurate so as soon as an item sells on Amazon UK for example, that is deducted from the stock on every other marketplace near enough instantly so oversells are few and far between. For these guys, it seems they list what they dont have hence why people get the "not passed our quality check" email. Its garbage, you simply cannot get away with listing what you dont have so it is only a matter of time before they get busted. iT WILL happen.
  • They'll be managing their stock by file exchange so would depend how often the system is told to run an update. I don't see any point in them listing stuff they never had, it's clear they are listing what they get via MM rather than from a wholesaler or such as most of their titles only have 1 available.

The Outlets have account managers and get guidance on their operations, eBay does want big companies on board but to increase the amount of good deals and to raise the standards of service perceived on eBay.

I don't think this company falls within that as they aren't really a brand so if their DRS fall below standard or they abuse the feedback system they should be sanctioned like everyone else and any seller on eBay manipulating their feedback is in for shock if eBay find out,

It's clear they need to adjust what they do to offer a better service, Amazon are obviously happy with their performance as they've been on there a long time, only time will tell with eBay, if they manage to survive past xmas I'll guess they'll be OK.

Sorry, I didnt mean listing stuff they dont have at all, I just meant listing it as soon as they know someone is sending them it via MM. This is not allowed as you can only list items you have in stock at that time so they should wait for it to arrive then list it but again, most sellers do this anyway adding supplier lists to their inventory and just ordering in once the item has sold.

They will not be using a file exchange, they'll be using the API supplied by Amazon, eBay etc. This is not like the upload of a file that smaller sellers will do (purge/replace, replace all etc.) but is instead a direct link between their systems and that marketplace. esellerpro is one example of software that will update on all marketplaces instantly as soon as something sells as it is checking levels constantly, not every hour or so.
  • Hello

I'm self employed on ebay full time also and in the category I sell in, there are loads of sellers and loads of different prices for each different item, yet we are all getting sales.

So just because this other company knocks their prices down by 1p cheaper than yours, surely if a potential customer sees the listings, they would rather pay 1p more for a better service than 1p less for a bad service.

I am a small seller on Ebay who is trying to earn a living, pay the bills, pay my mortgage, look after my kiddies.
Recently a cd/dvd seller started up and seems to undercut everyone of my items by 1p, as anyone else experienced this?
My sales have dissapeared and after shelling out listing fee's I am running at a loss :( I'm scared my business is going to go under.
Ebay used to be a marketplace for second hand sellers and small businesses, I'm unsure why hightstreet shops and big businesses have now started selling on Ebay? It puts small sellers under very very quickly.
This month I haven't been able to pay my listing fee's, bills or mortgage.
I have tried lowering my prices but it seems the seller is using some type of software? Everytime I lower my price, they lower there's by 1p.
Some items that are worth a bit are now being sold for literally pennies :(
I thought about switching to play or amazon but apparently estocks trade as zoverstocks and have done the same on the other 2 sites.
The software they use will always undercut every seller. This is so unfair :( I can't sleep at all, scared in going to lose my home :(
    Anybody else experienced this?

It's business! I had to go and dig out my MSE login details but I had to.

TBH I'd never really thought about the negative affect buying from estocks/Zover on smaller sellers because I guess like most people here I like saving money.

They are not based in the UK it seems so apart from paying money to the Royal Mail I doubt they are paying much tax etc.

I've been buying from them for years (never realised they were MM) with barely a problem. If anything they have been excellent. I think I've had 2 or 3 "Not up to standard" emails and they seemed quite genuine as they were for stranger DVD imports -where a 2nd look may find a problem. I still left positive feedback because even though it was a copy/paste job it was very well written and business-like.

Anyway, there's no money in old DVDs (my local pawn shops are in a price fight doing them for £5 for 5 or less) so you need to think a bit more about how you can offer a specialty service on eBay. I go to eBay for price and/or for things I might not get elsewhere. Think about something else you'd be good at selling on eBay. Maybe open a new Seller account to try other things.

And to give even more balance I get far better experiences with these bulk sellers than I do with individuals overall. This is with discs/media of course, other goods may be different.

Hope you get things sorted but eBay and people like me (buyers) are not charitable. Just have a wee think about what you could sell well and what people want.

It may be something without a UPC! :)
