I dont think anyone does those any more
They were replaced by the ones with a digital input... If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

Useful thread OP. I'm after a cheap and cheerful fridge freezer (half and half iyswim) for the rental property we're moving into. Don't want to spend loads as it's just a stop gap. Will keep an eye on what's advised in the thread.Herman - MP for all!

Our Hotpoint fridge freezer (8553 or 8555) has lasted well over 18 years. However in the intervening time the company has probably been bought, sold, reorganised, downsized, expanded and outsourced so many times so I cannot guarantee the quality of a new one.
I do note that fridge freezers like ours with a 50/50 split are few and far between. Hotpoint still do one...

No they aren't. Between the 6 manufacturers I deal with, there are 16 different models, with a mix of frost free and standard...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

I have absolutely no clue.
I was going to start looking at the weekend so I don't really know what kinda price range they sit in.
I don't need anything with fancy add on's like integrated boxes for this that or the other, or ice dispensers etc. I just need something that keeps my shopping cold and frozen. It doesn't even have to look bonny or be a particular colour.
Or last for years. We intend buying once we've got a feel for the area and we've saved more for a deposit so will get out 'forever' fridge then, lol. Herman - MP for all!

Ok, well in that case, I'd be looking at either the Frigidaire FRC150FF at around £240, or the Hotpoint FF200L at around £340 if you need more storage capacity

Haven't got a wide experience - have had a Bosch washing machine and drier for many years without any problems (just had to renew worn motor burshes on the washer recently) and therefore have not had the opportunity to "try" other makes. (And have also got a Bosch diswasher that is also proving the be very reliable). Will probably go for Bosch again when any of them pack up.Never let it get you down... unless it really is as bad as it seems.0

Today's news about some faulty Beko fridge-freezer models should concentrate minds.
The best manufacturers (Miele and similar) charge more than the less-good ones - no surprise there?
More succinctly: "You gets what you pays for."0 -

Of course you get what you pay for, but not everyone wants an appliance to last for 15+ years, some people just want them as a stop gap and this is where the budget appliances come in useful.
Oh and your point about the Beko fridges and freezers...hmm...so what you're saying is because they have reported a problem with a number of products they should be avoided?
Well in that case, the same should be said for Bosch, Siemens and Neff (who also reported a fire risk with some of their products this week) and going back over the last few years, Electrolux, Whirlpool, Hotpoint, Indesit, Stoves, Cannon, Zanussi...need I go on? Oh yeah, just one more Miele had to recall some washing machines last year and some dryers a few years ago.
It doesn't matter how much you pay for something, or what their reputation is, at the end of the day, no manufacturer is perfect...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands
