My mate who repairs washing machines(22yrs) advised me that zanuzzi machines are the best hands down.
... and I had one and it was an expensive pile of old rubbish. I don't think you can choose based on brands these days.

My white list so far is: Zanussi, Miele, Neff, Siemens, Bosch, Indesit
    Black list: Beko, LG

I am not sure yet about Samsung, Hotpoint, Frigidaire.

Can anyone help me with those lists? Please post your bad and good experiences, maybe not only Brand but model-specific, and I will update those lists in this first post. Thanks

We've just stopped dealing with Indesit (and therefore Hotpoint as well) the problem isn't the quality of the product, it's the after-sales service (or lack of it) I've had 4 customers so far this year who have been without one or more appliance working properly for over a month.

Samsung make good TVs, but certainly not kitchen appliances.

Frigidaire is owned by Electrolux. It is a top brand in the USA, but the product offering over here isn't as good. Cooling appliances are pretty good for the price. Wouldn't touch any other of their appliances though, they are usually re-badged Tricity Bendix appliances...

Another company we just stopped dealing with. Cheap product and even cheaper after-sales. Ovens are notoriously awful, storage capacity of cooling appliances are poor and please don't get me started on the dishwasher doors

They used to be the best, by a long shot. This isn't the case any more though. They are now made with pretty much the same components as the Electrolux and lower spec AEG washers.

That's a shame. Our Zanussi washer dryer has performed faultlessly for almost 9 years until last month when it stopped, but a pair of brushes from eBay and 20 minutes crawling underneath with it balanced at a precarious angle, she's good as new again.

I'll agree with the above list...and in that order left to right with Miele at the top.

Couldn't agree more. Zanussi used to be a great brand (even if their ovens were a bit rubbish when compared like for like with other brands) sadly, Electrolux in their infinite wisdom, decided that as they were the parent company, they should target their own named appliances to sit below the AEG name and shove Zanussi down the pecking order.

Luckily, this didn't work and they saw a huge drop in sales, so the latest range review is pushing Zanussi back up, but it's still a long way from where it used to be...

Far too many to mention :D

I'd put Whirlpool on your so-so list though, half decent products at a half decent price (did I really just say that? I used to be very anti-Whirlpool)

Oh, and avoid Smeg and CDA at all costs. Seriously. Avoid them...

Before I realised it was just the brushes, we thought we were going to have to buy a replacement in a hurry without much time for research (having had to do just that with our built-in dishwasher a few months back). Fortunately it wasn't the case, but realise that with a 9 year old appliance, we may be on borrowed time so want to have a short-list ready for when this one finally packs in.

Unfortunately though, we really like the versatile control panel on this machine (rather than a rotary dial, there are separate push buttons to independently select each parameter of the cycle - fabric/temperature/spin speed/dryer cylce/etc). But no-one seems to do this anymore. Anyone aware of a decent, reasonably priced machine with such a feature?
