Hands off my pension

OK lets get one thing straight. I deserve my pension, I have worked for it, I pay into it, and I'm not getting anything you private sector bozos wouldnt have got if you had applied to work in the Public Sector three or four years ago.
But you didnt want to do that then did you? Oh no, when jobs were plentiful it was all "Haha you public sector losers no one with a brain or any ambition would work for that salary."
Well one banking crisis and a recession later and suddenly you all want a piece of the pie you wouldnt have tucked into if it were on special offer at Morrisions before. And if you cant have it you just want to smash the pie and tread it into the mud. Well you cant because we all have contracts and we wont take your bins away if you annoy us.
And anyway as far as I can see most people who work for the private sector do jobs like working in Greggs or Carphonewarehouse so its not surprising you arent going to retire to a yacht in the bahamas is it.

Fair enough. Just remember that the bozos in Greggs and Carphonewohrehouse are the ones paying for your pension.0 -

A great example of why people lower paid then you can ill afford to pay for their own pension let alone contribute to yours.0 -
Changing the teachers pensions are under negotiation.
Except the movement from RPI to CPI which cannot be negotiated.
Except the increase in contributions.
Except the increase in retirement age.
So the only thing that is up for negotation is how to implement them. It is disingenious to suggest that there are still negotiations going on - that there were ever negotations going on.
See Nick Gibbs video on this webpage for more details:

"How it is implemented is what matters...." demonstrates the ignorance that this government has.
They keep on saying that the teachers pensions are unsustainable but in 2007 there was a negotiated agreement called "cap and share" (also introduced into Civil Service, NHS and Local Govt schemes). Cap and share limits the liability of the employer (in this case the tax payer) so that if any issues impact on the cost of pensions would lead to the employees meeting those rising costs either through increased contributions or reduced benefits. This is managed through periodic revaluations of the pension schemes and in the case of the Teachers Pension the revaluation is 2 years out of date and the government will not deliver it. This is because they know that currently, it would not support the sort of changes they are seeking to impose.
This government wants to take money out of the pockets of public sector workers to pay back the deficit. When George Osborne set out him deficit reduction plan the only way he could make it work was by fising his sights on public expenditure and this means robbing low and medium earners in the public sector workforce which, conveniently, also makes the public sector workforce cheaper to contract out. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

Lemon Jelly has it right.
In the Civil Service, we accepted changes which make them sustainable. This is demonstrated by the Hutton Report.

I would be happy to see PS pensions increased to Troops, front line police, nurses, paramedics etc, but hate the thought of having to pay for the pensions of the army of mediocre pen pushers that have never got their hands dirty in their lives.
Edit - See above thread.0 -

You're right IMO. There is no point in being offered a pension that is generous but that you can never receive!0 -
Bottom line ...... we're all in the same boat ...... except for the Politicians and "Golden Handshake" executives. It has taken about 4,500,000,000 (4.5 billion) years for the Earth to form as it is now .........
and it'll only take about another 100 years for mankind to really **** it up!!!!0 -

To be clear, these are changes that were negotiated under the previous government.
Most Departments have had/are having 25% head count reductions (or more). This did not result in strikes. We have a two year pay freeze (following a one year pay freeze in some cases), plus a promotion freeze. However that is not enough for the Condems who want the shirt off my bl00dy back as well and have to resort to barefaced lies to "justify" it (as revealed by Evan Davis yesterday).
This is why I went on strike.Politics is not the art of the possible. It consists of choosing between the disastrous and the unpalatable. J. K. Galbraith0
