Hands off my pension

they should just sack all these cretins in the public sector. i didn't even notice they were gone yesterday until i saw a load of swampies walking through birmingham on the news with their incorrectly spelled banners and placards. they are all vastly overpaid. they create NOTHING. private companies that create wealth can pay any bonus they like from their own profits but public sector workers have no place getting bonuses or massive pensions. they should get the state pension and that is all - unless they pay into a private one themselves - there should be no employer contribution (or if they have to 5% is more than enough, maybe rising to 7.5% when they hit 50).
until the public sector learn the value of money, they will always be the jokers they are.
boo hooo hooo they want to change my pension. i didn't agree to that.
i bet you don't say that when you get your undeserved payrise.
the public sector is too big for its useless boots. just privatise it all except the a&e, police, roads and army.0 -
Please explain what a "promotion freeze" is?
It means that no posts can be advertised within the Civil Service on promotion. This has been in place for over a year now. It is connected with the external recruitment freeze.
There are a few exceptions for highly specialised roles (e.g. those which require an engineer).Politics is not the art of the possible. It consists of choosing between the disastrous and the unpalatable. J. K. Galbraith0 -

So if a dept head, director or whatever leaves or retires, can that position only be filled by an outside canditate?0 -
The Principal Civil Service Pension Scheme where for every £1 in employee contribution £18 is paid out in pension!
Yeah, that is so sustainable.
Well, the report the coalition published shows that public sector pensions are sustainable.
Francis Maude and Justine Greening have both been pwned on the Today programme trying that line.
Even Jeff Randall thinks you're wrong.Politics is not the art of the possible. It consists of choosing between the disastrous and the unpalatable. J. K. Galbraith0 -

Let's put it this way, there are unfilled vacancies in the Civil Service.
During a jobs cut programme, replacing retiring people from outside is not a priority. Retirements are rolled up into the headcount reduction.
If you ask me how it is supposed to allow the civil service to work effectively, I'll be damned if I know.Politics is not the art of the possible. It consists of choosing between the disastrous and the unpalatable. J. K. Galbraith0 -

Well, you'd need to leave your dirty bedsit to notice. :beer:Politics is not the art of the possible. It consists of choosing between the disastrous and the unpalatable. J. K. Galbraith0 -

Still don't get the promotion freeze bit, are you saying that if anybody above the lowest grade leaves then that position is never filled internally?0 -

Getting promoted is very challenging even when there is no freeze.
Couple of new words for you to look up.
