thanks for your kind words, I think I need to learn how to tactfully ask if we will fit in without sounding snobby - we are really not but after it was pointed out to me by a headteacher that we are middle class and woudln't fit in I'm worried about it.

Perhaps you can use the last comment, Tumpty: tell them about what was said last time, and that you want to raise the question because of that. Good luck.

Just thought I'd share this with u all.... happened years ago, at least 40 years ago. I posted it on another post, but good to share hehe[/QUOTE]

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:I especially like 'well-refreshed' and 'Temperance Hall'. Sounds like a classy do. :D

Well, I'm back from a frugal-ish holiday abroad (a house swap). It wasn't my house that was swapped, but a friend's. The swap was a great start but unfortunately the place itself was pretty expensive, so savings took a hammering. We had a fantastic time, though, so I'm glad I went. The only problem is that after living for 2 weeks in a beautiful, elegant, minimalist Italian flat, my own place looks like a farmyard crossed with a jumble sale, and grubby as well, despite years of constant decluttering. How DO people get everything so beautiful? (I suspect that in this case, money was part of the solution, but still...!) :o

Oh, and I now have to adjust from Italian food to eating my way through the marrow and runner bean mountain (the allotment went into overdrive during my absence). Marrow jam, anyone?

The house swap seems to have worked very well, so it might be an idea for other frugallers (more houseproud than me, obviously).:D We took good care of the apartment and apparently the 'other side' were very careful of my friend's house.

I think that is a good plan, thank you. I would never have thought of it if he didn't mention class. Bizzarre really if you think what we actually live with, soup kitchens, huge immigrant population, prostitutes, drug dealers etc all on our street and we are too middle class!

Holiday sounds great redglass, hope u and son have a good time at pon tins Tumpty.

I'm worried sick, MalleyCat, abt 5 months old, went out on Sunday at 3pm, she sneaked out, not unusual, as I was off to parents for dinner, just round the street, I went home at 5 to get ready for work and spent 40 mins looking for her, and again when I got home at 00.40, again spent abt 30 mins looking around, and again at 7 am.
I left the back door open all day, still nothing.
We have foxes living across the school pitch from us, and a forest/woodland area all around. Son has been crying all night, promised him we will go lookin tomorrow after nursery, but I'm at a lose of where to look, she doesn't normally venture very far, and doesn't stay out for too long....

  • Hi lolalemon, couldnt read and run - it is quite possible that the cat has roamed a little further than normal, and cant find its way home, or is stuck in a shed. My cat lost itself in the woods next to our house, it was less than 100 yds from our back door - and we have foxes and badgers. If they cant find their scent home, they tend to just stay put. I always find mine by sound - it they are shut in, or can hear me, they will usually mieow or make some sort of noise - so eventually I find them - I just walk all around listening.

I hope the cat turns up soon, I know how worrying it is - Im sure all will be fine XXXX

I think/hope she has found her 1st 'love' , as 2 cats have bn coming round for weeks, the big black one hasn't bn here all day, the tabby, who looks like her, sneaked in abt 7pm to eat some of her food (as usual) but they are both normally around at least 10 times a day!

Just popping in to say I am still here, lurking rather than posting, but never seem to have the time to keep up or post. Still sticking to my £4,000 per year, still frugal, still debt free and still loving where we've moved. Hope everyone is well. :)

  • Morning all. I have been away so long that I haven't time to read all the posts I have missed - apologies. Life has been hectic, but I need to seriously pull in my belt before the festive season is upon us, so I am back in the fold. I want to not only reduce my outgoings, but improve my income........... can see car boot sales in my future. Anyone got any ideas for definite sales? Just back from holiday with DD and 3 x DGS in the New Forest. We had a ball, and the things they liked best (eg swimming) cost the least. Isn't it always the way? I went to the local supermarket when we arrived and got enough minced beef to feed an army and cooked most nights - definitely cheaper than eating out with 5 of us! Spag bol, chili etc........ I wish the car had been bigger so that I could have made it at home and just warmed it through each evening, but the blighters keep growing and my little nannymobile was bursting at the seams. Hope everyone is well.

Lola - you could try Sardines - a guy at a cat rescue place told me even if cats dont eat them they love the smell. Also its best to look for them early in the morning or at dusk (pictures you going round the woods with a dish of sardines at 7.30 calling puss! - yeah I've done it!) also Lilo is right - sometimes you just need to listen very carefully. Good Luck, do hope you find puss.
