Rising from the ashes, i started that thread yesterday...first one on this site as far as im aware!! Its more or less just stick to a budget and get as close as you can to needs only....im going to do it for the rest of the year if i can, however if i have nights out etc planned i will put in at start of month. More or less cancelling out all unnessesary spends, when possible need to plan to have a night off to relax then back on the frugal ways the next day. A night out doesnt have to mean i wake up feeling guilty the next day. Feel really happy today, ready for the challange which awaits me as of midnight on Sunday...bring it on!!

I don't want to rain on your parade, Rictus123, but with prices rising it might be a better strategy to buy things if they come up cheap. Sorry to be such a party-pooper.

You could of course get the best of both worlds:
    1) Don't spend for one month
    except for
    2) Squirrelling away supplies that will keep, that you know you'll use, and that will cost more in future.

If I saw a big bag of rice or beans on offer, I'd be right in there even if it broke a NSD, because in the long run it'd help me.

Good luck, anyway, and it'll be interesting to see how you feel at the end of your 30 days. :) Don't forget the links for free films.

Well redglass im lucky im still 20 and live with parents. My £100 a month "digs" covers food. That is all they will take. £25 a week covers everything. I am very lucky. This could mean i save up 3 and a half months expenses in a month

Blimey rictus, if you're only 20, live with your parents and take home £3,000 a month, can you get me a job where you work please!

New guy has invited me n wee man to the beach at the weekend, if its nice, with his sister n her 3 kids (& most likely his parents will happen to 'turn up'). I'm rubbish at picnics, please give me easy things to make that does not contain milk, cheese or yogurt, that a 4 year old will like. I'm not aiming to impress, just that I can be confident that I won't kill anyone if they take some.

Never mind the job, I'm moving in with his parents. :rotfl: Rictus may well get to be King of MSE at this rate! Go, Rictus!

    Are all the kids dairy-free?

Oh I wish I could go on the picnic with you!! Bananas are wrapped in their own skins, so not over-messy, and I love those mini pork pies on a picnic. Grilled chipolata sausages, crisps, mini sausage rolls, are all suitable, and you could make pizza with non-cheese toppings.

Pin-wheel sandwiches look nice - trim the crusts from slices of bread, and spread with mashed tuna, or whatever, then roll up each slice like a swiss roll, and cut into portions. Hope you have a lovely time.

Hope everyone has a good weekend. I'm off to Brighton for the day, tomorrow. :j I bought the tickets when Southern Railway had their one day sale. I'm treating my friend, cos the tickets cost £1 each return, Victoria to Brighton!:j :j

I have my free 3 month trial Taste Card, and have found restaurants that accept this on Fridays, so a 2 for one meal, and Costas are currently half price.:T

    Way to go!!

No, but me n son have severe allergy, as bad as a peanut allergy, so we avoid everything and try and not eat food that has been contaminated/touched cows stuff.
We do use goats milk n yogurt, and some soya, but have to watch as we take reactions to some soya as well.
We also don't eat beef. So a lot of food is excluded from us.
I normally just make sandwiches, salads, fruit... but who am I kidding, I want to impress haha.

Pin wheel sandwiches sound good. Thanks :)
