    well...............
They have refunded the £60 and offered £290.
I think my partner is going to accept this as he does not want his broken telly back.
Im inclined to think have the telly back though?
It makes £350 for a new tv which we wouldnt get the same spec/quality for i dont think. I may be wrong will be looking online tonight. If anyone knows of any good full hd tv deals 40" and above then id be grateful to hear!

Can I ask how much you paid at the time? was the £1000 with surround sound system? Only £290 seems very low for a TV that cost £1000.

I'm in a similar scenario, bought my 42" LG in December 2008 so its a little younger than yours. Currys have had it since last Tuesday and from reading online it would seem to be a faulty screen thats quite common on this model. I think at the time it cost £699 ish so I'm wondering what sort of figure they will come up with when they discover the screen isn't worth repairing.

I certainly wont be accepting anything under £350 and will happily take it to small claims I think.

pulliptears is right, either you are accounting for the package you brought at £1000 or Knowhow have miscalculated.

I was panicking slightly at the thought of being offered around £190 for my TV....
Not heard back from them yet though so may be worth OP waiting a day or two until we can compare offers?

What size is it? because even if it's 40 inches, you can get a considerably better TV now for £599, probably less if you shop around.

But buy from somewhere that offers a longer warranty. I'm going by john lewis' price list, and they offer a 5 year warranty, which would have meant you'd have got an equivalent specification at no cost to yourself (which is why I've bought both my TVs there -- that and even with the staff discount where it was still cheaper at JL:|).
  • sorry for the late reply.
yes was slightly peeved when first posting. it was all in a package. the actual tv was £650 at the time. i think i might have pushed for a bit more money but my oh just saw ££ signs that were offered and went for it. they have bacsed the money just waiting for it to clear.
i looked on JL and the 5 yr guarantees seem really good as most people seem to be loosing their tvs around 3-4 years so would be worth it!

    Update from me too....

I was amazed to get a phone call telling me that our TV was all fixed and they had replaced the screen. Everything I'd read told me that the screen was the most expensive part and they didn't normally replace them. Quite relieved anyway, it's one fight I didn't want to have at present.
TV is coming back on Wednesday.

skintmumof2 getting a little under half your money back for a 3 years old TV isn't exactly a bad deal, and is about right for what I'd expect back under the SoGA.

Pulliptears, replacing the screen is prohibitively expensive outside of warranty, I guess either their calculator said that it would cost them more to do a partial refund then to replace the screen or the manufacturer is aware of the problem and are providing the screens to retailers who request them FoC.

Glad you both got suitable outcomes to your issues.

I did see mention of a batch of faulty screens on 42" LG's so you may have something there.

I agree, with you though now I know the price of Skintmum's TV its not a bad deal at all :D

Have to say when I was told I'd have to spend £60 to send my TV back to Curry's I did have my doubts, but can't fault the service at all really. £60 refunded and TV fixed with no arguments.
  • Thats good news pullip!
