Couldn't possibly agree more, and my wife works for Tesco!;)
We use shell because both our cars run noticably better on it and achieve a consistant 3 to 5% improvement in mpg, when it costs the same price or very often less, (Have you noticed how Tesco fuel prices often appear to rise slightly during these promotions?) And NO before you ask I dont work for shell !!!!! :rotfl:
It's a shame we lose out "less now though since they diluted the points offer on their fuel" on clubcard points but we prefer it as the cars are running smoother and not pinking at tickover.

Hubby heard about this over on the Pistonheads forum. we're about to give it a test for a couple of weeks and see if there's anything to it.

We've been playing with various ways to get a higher mpg out of our car for the last year and have pretty much got it as spot on as we can now. If the fuel makes a difference, we'll know.

I will simply repeat what I heard in my local garage a while ago.

A guy was in there complaining about his car running badly despite Mike (the garage owner) having just serviced it.

They went through all the symptoms and what the causes could be then Mike just asked.... "Do you get your fuel at Tesco?"

The reply was a surprised "Yes... how did you guess that?"

There is a difference (I used to run a filling station) and you are quite right the base fuel is all the same and complies with the relevant British Standard (which is basically that it is clean and will go bang when ignited) but the big brands all add what are known as "additive packs" to their branded fuels such as Shell FUELSAVE.

BP ULTIMATE, Total EXCELLIUM Shell V-POWER etc. are premium brands and have even more additives and in the case of V_POWER diesel even a difference source fuel as it is what is known as "Gas-to-Liquid" as it starts life as a gas not oil.

The supermarkets may claim their fuel is "as good", but the big brands would not be allowed to claim their MPG advantages if they hadn't already proved it in verifiable trials.

so the offer is, i buy 1 pack of coke and a pack of tuna and get a 15p voucher correct?
You buy a specific sized pack of coke (30 cans?) and get a 5p off voucher, you buy a 4 pack of Tuna (£6 - £4 in Asda according to posts) and get a 5p off voucher, you spend £50 and get a 5p off voucher. You can use one of each against a single fuel purchase giving a 15p off discount. To break even on the Tuna you would need to buy a minimum of 40ltrs, not sure about the coke.

There's no difference in the vouchers, ie there is not a Coke-specific one, a tuna-specific one and a £50 shop-specific one.

There is nothing in the rules that disallows using 3 x £50 shop vouchers to give you 15p off a litre.

But perhaps best to print off the Tesco T&Cs in post 1 ;)

Therefore no need to think about getting your money back on the tuna or Coke :D
  • BP don't deliver for Sainsbury any more, they lost the contract to Wincanton over a year ago, at least where I live they did. My husband lost his job because of it. He's driven tankers for years and from what he says, petrol is like wine, the expensive stuff is slightly better quality than the "own brand". It's not the same for diesel however.

On the other hand petrol in Europe is worse for your car cos of what they do or don't put in it compared to here. We have higher standards. :-)

With regards to the offer, Tesco always get their money back somehow, usually putting the prices up before the offer is publicised.

Thanks for your input, but could you just explain more about the difference with diesel? Are you saying that supermarket diesel is no different in quality than branded versions, unlike petrol?

Hope so, as we tend to buy supermarket diesel!

The £50 total spend vouchers have a barcode, the ones for tuna and coke don't, so unless you're lucky and get someone who doesn't know what they're doing, you can only use 1 voucher with a barcode and up to 2 that don't :)

Anyone know whether u can buy e-top up voucher as part of the £50 spend? anyone tried it like?
On this site it doesnt say that its restricted from the spend...http://www.tesco.com/petrol-promotion/

Also, slight different point but related slightly...has anyone ever had double clubcard points from buying e-top up vouchers in tesco? they used t do it when the double clubcard pts started but they excluded it a while afterwards.
