Its all down to personal opinion but my friends a car mechanic and he would never put tesco fuel in his car he said you may as well p*** in the petrol tank!

Couldn't possibly agree more, and my wife works for Tesco!;)
We use shell because both our cars run noticably better on it and achieve a consistant 3 to 5% improvement in mpg, when it costs the same price or very often less, (Have you noticed how Tesco fuel prices often appear to rise slightly during these promotions?) And NO before you ask I dont work for shell !!!!! :rotfl:
It's a shame we lose out "less now though since they diluted the points offer on their fuel" on clubcard points but we prefer it as the cars are running smoother and not pinking at tickover.

  • Tank holds 50 L of fuel. 5p/L * 50 = £2.50
4 pack of Princes tuna in Brine = £6.99. Net cost = £4.49.
4 pack of Tesco tuna in Brine = £3.50.

Still cheaper to buy Tesco. ASDA's prices are £4.00 and £3.52 respectively.

Can't find the 30 pack of Coke @ Tesco...

    £10.........

Tesco are nuts & so are its customers if they fall for it.
    Not Again

Why? Genuine question by the way, I don't know much about petrol or cars but always use Tesco because it is convenient and the same or cheaper locally to us.

Was having a look at the offers, but not sure if it works - it looks like you only get 5p off for either buying Tuna/Coke or spending £50 has anyone actually got a 15p off a litre voucher yet?

Tesco fuels (Frankly as far as I am concerned all supermarket fuels) are the cheapest available for the supermarket to buy. I know a man who own two independent garages one of which is a franchise to one of the bigger brands and he says that when he orders his fuel for either station he always states that he wants the driver to collect and swipe his (BP I think it is) I.D. card so they get the fuel mix with the additives in both stations.
I have to go past a shell station to get to work which is often 2p ltr cheaper than Tesco and even when it isn't we still buy the shell, even when Tesco have their 5p off offer simply because it pays us NOT to use it. Both our cars run measurably more efficiently and better.

It's an urban myth! Years ago supermarket fuel didn't use additives but they are all the same now! I know someone in the fuel industry and he said all the tankers go to the same refinery and get filled with the same fuel regardless if morrisons, shell, bp or tesco is written on the side! It would be expensive and unlikely for the supermarkets to go out of their way to create a different blend! People have got the placebo effect with this one, told their car is running smoother and suddenly they can feel it running smoother! You could fill their car at tescos tell them u refilled at shell and they would never be able to tell!! Don't worry about it! Hope that helps xx

This is such a myth - its likely your friend with the garages uses BP because he gets some sort of commercial benefit from it. Most companies are the same that way they get any reward and not their drivers in the form of CC points or Nectar points.

Try telling that to the computer in both my car and my wifes car then. It says there is a difference AND no I am not adjusting my driving style according to the fuel in my tank, I drive well over 30,000 miles per annum so the results are gained over considerable time.
They both bear me out. Trust me I am so not into wasting hard earned money, but as I explained earlier a customer of mine does own two fuel stations and he confirms that the fuel tankers do go to central points / depots to collect fuel, however if they swipe a identity card to show where the fuel is going to be sold it is blended with additives which do make (Albeit a relitively small) a measurable difference. They would be ripped to shreads in their "fuel save" advertising if it had not been proved to be true.:A
