No receipt and paid cash. Am I screwed?

Bought a skirt 6 weeks ago. Wore it and it came apart at one of the seams. My OH brought it back to Asda. They said no receipt, no refund. The label had also faded quite considerably (no clue why, it was only washed twice!) and as they couldn't find the code on the label, he was told no chance. He came home an we hunted again for the receipt, and I phoned the store to speak to a manager.
I found the item on their website. It had been moved into their sale and subsequently sold out, but their was a product code. The guy at Asda couldn't see this webpage on his computer, so I offered to email it to him, but he said no to this too. He told me to bring the webpage into store, so he could view it, and he'd do everything he could for me. I told him I'd be at the store that evening, and he said if he left he'd leave a note for the staff.
When I went in, they offered me a £7 refund (the skirt cost £14) as that was the most recent sale price. I was also told they hadn't stocked that skirt since December (funny, as I bought mine 6 weeks ago and have been going back every week to see if they have my size to exchange it! They were stocked, at full price, until 2 weeks ago.)
I asked about them refunding the cost of the expense to return the product under SOGA (2 return bus journeys @ £3.20 each) and was told no receipt, no cc bill, no rights. I'm not prepared to lose out on £7 + costs of return, so what can I do?

The last sale price is all they have to offer you if you can't show the reciept or proof of purchase I'm afraid.0

I dont think theres much you can do without a receipt.0

You've been going back every week to see if they have your size yet you think they should pay you twice for your travelling ?
I don't think so.
You have no proof of purchase yet they're offering you a refund of their last known sale price of £7.00.
I'd be grateful to be honest. You have been reading.....another magnificent post by garethgas :beer:0 -

Erm, yes actually, as I'd made special journeys to return the item (not just had a look while I was shopping.) The second time I was specifically told to come in that evening to sort it, then it turned out to be a wasted journey!0 -

You're going to have to as there is no way you can prove that you paid £14.
TBH, they don't even have to do this, it's a very generous offer, one you're not entitled to, take it before they withdraw it altogether due to you being so stubborn, and get on with your life.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

Could this be why it "came apart at one of the seams? To small? If so your fault!
