I would advise all those on this thread who have had letters from debt collectors or CPW to check their credit records. Chances are, you will have some bad news there.0

Just an update for u'all. Since posting this thread i contacted the CAB who advised me to send a copy of my letter from the CPW stating my 'debt' had been cleared to the DCA. I did this and have received a letter from the DCA stating they are looking into the issue with CPW and will keep me updated, i wont be holding my breath tho!!
I would like to add that on one of my many phone calls to CPW, they stated that recently they have 'passed/sold' their debts onto a DCA, hence the recent letter i got, and judging by the response on this thread i have a funny feeling that more people will be getting letters for issues that happened years ago!!0 -
Hey,
I'm having the same problem at the moment with fredrickson international. they contacted me last month about a contract i had with CPW 4.5 years ago. when cancelling the contract i wrote a letter advising CPW to advise the outstanding balance on the account i would happily pay however i never heard anything more so i thought that there was no outstanding balance and the contract was cancelled. so i called CPW direct as i thought i was fishy to begin with as the letter stated to not contact CPW myself! the guy i spoke to on the service desk advised that the debt had been written off but has now been brought by DCA. any ideas where i stand am i going to have to pay?
p.s the other thing i found a little weird is they have never contacted the address that the CPW contract was taken out at my parents still live there.0 -
I came on here to ask for help with the same situation but can now see I am not alone.
Is there any reason why there are so many people all receiving bills from the same DCA relating to CPW contracts that are all supposed to have been cancelled over 4 years ago?
Mine was also cancelled summer 07. I noticed it on credit file at the start of last year and asked CPW about it, only to be told they could not tell me anything other than it had been sold to a DCA. Last month was the first time anyone has contacted me for money.
My direct debit was never cancelled but they stopped taking the money from my bank (although they never actually cancelled the contact until 18 month later), and I never recevied any more bills since I cancelled.
I asked the DCA to provide an explanation for this from CPW and details of all contact relating to the account but all they have sent is an account statement which doesn't make much sense. (It shows a balance lower than on my credit report last January, yet higher than what the DCA say I owe).0 -
They tried this on me tonight. They rang me, I didn't even know who they were and had to ask. When they told me they told me how much the debt was, when it was from (2006), and asked me how I'd like to pay. I said "I want some paperwork" they said they sent it on monday. So I got passed to somebody else who went straight into trying to set up some sort of repayment plan. I was very annoyed by this point and told them I was unsure of my income (having just come off benefits) so they're sending me some sort of assessment form. I also asked them why this wasn't settled at the time and they just fobbed me off with something like "It was still outstanding from CPW".
Other than contacting CPW I don't know what to do. I totally wasn't expecting this and 5 years is outrageous.0 -
I am also having the same problem with a contract from 06-07. I was made bankrupt in 07 but kept the contract as I needed it for work but couldnt afford it a couple of months after so they barred me from making calls ect but people could still ring me for a few months. A collection company then started asking for the money and I started paying about £20 a month. The debt started at about £300 and once I got it down by about half I said I wasnt paying anymore as they were charging £45 per month but I was only having basic line rental. The company agreed that this was charging for a service they hadnt provided and that what I had paid covered more than enough for the service I had. I had a letter a month later from CPW confirming this(I have since lost this so if anyone would like to send me a copy of theres please PM me lol)
Anyway I heard nothing since probably march 08 until last week when I had a letter from Bryan Carter solicitors saying I had a balance of £398.31 on this account so alot more than when the debt was written off. The today I had a letter from Fredrickson about the same account saying I owe £127.96 which is probably the amount the wrote it off at.
I know both these companys are basically the same and share an office but cant understand why they cant get the amount right between themselfs! I have never had any entry from these or anyone else put on my credit record for this so is the debt legal or have they just been stupid in buying this as they cant actually prove it in court? I know MBNA after being told I was bankrupt sold my debt of £4500 to a company who must have been gutted to learn they couldnt touch me.
has anyone who has any idea on the best way to go round this got any ideas, I am already sending a prove it letter to both to see if I get anything0 -
Hi there, I'm a first time poster so I hope I have got the right place. Any help greatly appreciated.
I received a letter to my current address about two weeks ago from Fredrickson International (FI) asking myself to contact an 08 number, regarding an 'urgent matter' as I have never heard of FI before and I had no idea what this was about, I ignored the letter and put it down to shock marketing tactics from a random sales.company.
I then received three days ago two letters both on the same day, one again from FI and another from a Bryan Carter Solicitors, this time both stating that I owe 379 ponds to them in respect of an outstanding account from a well known mobile phone retailer (CPW). It threatened court action and further fees if the account wasn't settled, fully, within seven days. I then received another letter from FI yesterday stating that despite 'trying to contact me by various means' I have continued to ignore them and further action 'shall now be sought, but as a gesture of goodwill, the account can still be settled, without further action, if I call and fully pay within 48 hours'.
So on my lunch break today I gave them a call, after quoting the ref number, they asked me to confirm my name, which I did, only to be told by them that the account had been passed back to the CPW and that they couldn't help me any further. Now I must add that I have no recollection of this debt or anything from CPW, when I stated this to one of the agents from FI, they still insisted that they had no information to help me with and that I would have to speak to the CPW, but how can I do that when I don't know what I'm calling for?
Shall I just keep quiet, sit tight and wait for the next letter to drop through, or chase it up myself, as I certainly don't want 'collecting agents' or bailiffs knocking on my door as I have children and I certainly don't want them to see that.
Does anyone have any advice?
Thanks all0 -
I think you can get a better advice on the Debt-Free Wannabe board.
However, I don't see any any problem with contacting CPW and asking them. Your surname and post code will suffice. This can be a matter of ID fraud.
