    You mention desert.

I take it this means cycling throug a lot of sand.

Hopefully not literally through sand too much - I gather the Australians will have roads which I can cycle on, but that a lot of the time they may be surrounded by dry desert.

Apart from the obvious problem, carrying enough water, you will also need to carry (on top of all your food and clothing/camping gear/first aid) spares for your bike, including non obvious ones such as rear freewheel as you dont want sand getting inside and clogging up the ratchet, leaving you without the ability to pedal forwards.
Yep, for sure, I'll need to carry a lot of spares, food and water with me yes. I'll check out what is needed thoroughly beforehand and probably take more than what is suggested.
Set your self a few UK challenge's first
Thanks, but no. I've had enough of the UK for one lifetime and want to get out of here. I can set myself some challenges while there.
To save money, cycle from here to Australia and then use domestic flights to get around when you're there. Saves you the baggage fee for the bike to get it to Aus, too.

I did hope I could learn how to crew a sailboat, having never got on one before and work my passage to Australia, but I dismissed the idea as unrealistic so soon.

I’ll fly to Australia and learn sailboating when I’m there and use that next time instead.

Dont be silly..he wont be alive to tell the tale

He cant cycle, wont set a challenge in the UK but expects to carry himself and enough spares to fill a transit van on a cycle through the Australian outback.

Anyway… enough already. I seem to have unintentionally provided some amusement for some of the more negative of you, but I’m wasting time here now, when I have heaps of critically important overdue things to do. Thanks to most of you of you for your comments, but I’ll leave this thread be now.

If I remember in months to come when I finally cycle in to Brisbane maybe I’ll post again then to let you know I made it.

Well you're in the UK until November anyway so why not set yourself some challenges here?
