Agree with you about rubbish, the amount thrown on the floor etc makes you ashamed to be on the same flight0 -
Really?
We've always taken home-made sandwiches - but we do mainly fly from Gatwick.
What part of, say. a home-made corned beef & beetroot sandwich could be classed as a liquid or gel?
I'm not sure why it is. Coming through Ibiza airport I was told to put my chocolate bar in the bin :eek:The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0 -
Sandwiches are NOT liquids or gels, neither are chocolate bars.
If I were asked to dump my home-made sandwiches before going through Security, I'd want to know why - and if the answer was 'because they're liquids or gels', I'd argue against that.
I've taken sandwiches through Gatwick and many, many foreign airports with not one bit of trouble.
I'd have said 'no' too, Jammin.
That's ridiculous.

if it were me, I'd plan to take my own sandwiches - but if you're worried about what Gillyx says, either contact the airport and ask for the definitive answer (if you do that, please let us know what they say) or plan to buy something from one of the airside shops.
Boots do a 'meal deal'.0 -
The Boots meal deal is quite a good option, depending on how madly money saving you are, food allergies etc.0

Some people seem to get away with it, and some don't, but I think one point is being missed.
If you eat your sandwiches in flight, then maybe no problem. BUT, I think if you have any salad in your sandwich, and don't eat it, it might be a different matter.
Last time I flew to Canada, they asked for a declaration before landing, that you weren't carrying any vegetable / organic items.
They used to be very hot on things that could spread diseases to their own agricultural / livestock system.
Don't forget, our last foot and mouth disease epidemic, was tracked to illegal food importation by a Chinese restaraunt.0 -
If you are going to do it (and I recommend you do or that you partake in teh Boots Meal Deal) the please, please, please avoid the stinky fillings. When I'm squashed into the seat next to you the last thing I want you unwrapping is an 8hr old egg sandwich0
