Internet in Spain?

If the hotel you are staying in doesn't have wifi, then find a bar that does (it's free in many places).0

Bear in mind that IVA/VAT is up to 18%...unless you'll be on the Canaries. No IVA there. So you'll need up to 34.22 euros on the SIM to purchase the 3GB of Data. Just make sure that the SIM is picking up a 3G/HSPDA/W-CDMA or at least UMTS signal(though don't connect) before purchasing the extra credit(30 euros, as it comes with 5 euros). Coverage map is here. Check for 3G coverage for your location.
Instructions here
You can perhaps, if you wish, order the SIM online to be sent direct to the villa, if you think there will be no Carrefour Hypermarket/Supermarkets around. Link here. The option is Tarjeta Carrefour > Alta nueva prepago datos con 5€ de saldo 10,00 €.
Remember if there is no 3G coverage with Orange 3G at your location, the modem is not locked; so you can use Movistar(Coverage), Vodafone Spain and Yoigo(3G Coverage > Datos - Internet para llevar > Hasta 3,2 Mbps HSDPA) SIMs too. Check their coverage maps for your location. Try here for a comparative coverage map and reviews. You may have to go for a different SIM, dependent on your location.0 -
Hope the OP does not mind me hijacking his/her thread.
I am going to Spain on Sunday and have looked into how I can use my 3g ipad whilst on Costa Del Sol. It is unlocked and currently has a Voda contract sim in it (from a contract dongle).
the best I could find was to pay Voda £10 for a month and get 20Mb a day on my iphone. Would rather use the ipad if possible.
Can I get a local sim to give me a reasonable amount of data for 2 weeks at a reasonable cost??
Thanks0 -
Why don't you just use free wifi. Many bars and hotels in Spain have this.
I travel to Spain quite often, and have to run my business via my laptop. So all I do is go to a local bar, and if I sit in the right corner, then I can pick up an unsecured wifi signal. It's enough to use my on line accounts, do all my web site admin, and use skype. In fact I have set up the Pamela voice mail on skype, so even with a huge number of calls to land lines in the UK, it hardly costs me anything.[/QUOT
Thanks for the reply.
Will almost certainly do that but as we are on a complex without wifi and not sure how much time we will spend there, would rather have it via 3g if at all possible. If it is too complicated/expensive, will do without.
Thanks.0 -

Nice accent you have there....lol
Thanks, been back through your posts.
OK, so I visit Carrefour purchase the sim card above and add 10 euros to it, I assume i can do that when I purchase it.
i should than have 100Mb a day for 15 days, more than enough. Will it just go in the ipad and work, or will there be some sort of registration process to get through in Spanish?
Thanks for the help.0 -

Didn't you write that you'd been back through my posts? All the info is there on the connection details.
What about the IVA?
Make sure the you ask for the mobile Internet SIM if that is what you want. If you want calls too, you may need to get a normal SIM and then apply a data package.0 -

What about the IVA?
Also do you just want data or would you like calls too?
Look through the info, you may wish to have more credit available for calls.
Thanks, I will try again. No calls on ipad.0 -

No problem there then. As I wrote, you need the data SIM, as the 'calls' option only gives you 20MB per day.
Of course all this assumes that Orange will have coverage in your intended area. You may need to use an alternative provider.0 -

Should have a good chance around Fuengirola, hopefully.0
