The senior school is open. If they have a class and a teacher is on strike, they have to use the time to do work for other lessons or read.

The primary school has some classes running as normal but others are cancelled. Nursery and reception are closed so I'll have my daughter at home. I'm self employed so I can juggle work around. I think I might take her swimming as she loves that.
Here I go again on my own....

Our primary is open as usual - the children have brought home newsletters today which says in bold that they are open. xx

Fortunatley (for me) only 1 class at my kids school is affected, and it's not the one either of my kids are in, so I'm ok. Though I only work 4 days so have the option to swap, Thursday is my busiest day when a report has to go off, plus I have asked for quite a lot of flexibility over next few weeks, so I can attend sports days and leavers concerts etc, so I didn't really want to ask again. DH worked from home 1 day last week due to 2 inset days, so didn't want to do it again, he was talking about taking AL but it would leave him short towards the end of the year. We only get notification today what was happening though.

My eldest has brought home a letter today saying that high school is closed. We've had no word from primary - I expected something in the newsletter about it today, even something saying they will be open as normal, but not a sausage.

The high school letter says that the school governors have to meet and discuss the health and safety of keeping the school open, taking into account how many teachers are striking etc. so that explains why it's all been such short notice.

I do a paper round on thursdays, so I can definitely take my teenager to 'work' :D

  • My kids aren't affected but we would just deal with it if they were. Not much else we could do except moan and life is too short for moaning IMO. Its a shame for those who lose pay but the teachers are too, don't forget!

We've had a letter today to say DD/DS's school is open! Yey! Monday and Thursday are my two worst days for getting time off as we're short staffed, so I'm pleased to say the least. I guessed they'd stay open as it's a big school which seems to be enormously well staffed, so I thought that even if afew teachers were off then they'd have enough to cover the shortfall. And just further proves my point about striking, in general, being a waste of time.

And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end

I dont know what to do to be honest I'm a Teaching Assitant and my only day I work is Thursday. The eldest can stay indoors he is 14 but my youngest...hmm I don't know yet. He might have to come with me as I have to go in even though the children might not be

The baby will be in nursery

That's somewhere to park it I suppose but don't let it eat the plants,
    they might be poisonous.
  • Only nursery is striking for us so we only have one off (1 is too young for nursery, one in nursery, 2 at school who will be going and one who is homeschooled anyway) but I am waiting to hear off my SIL's how many of their six kids I have for the day as they both work and so I'm childcare in emergency, hopefully at least one is off as it'll be nice for DS2 to have someone to play with whilst DD1 gets on with her work.
