Hi there
I have read on here somewhere that you can use white vinegar in your washing machine to clear away nasty smells (mine has a very nasty smell!) and I wonder if somebody can tell me how much to use and where to put it?
Many thanks in advance0 -
For a maintenance wash it should be placed directly in the tub; one way to do this would be to liberally soak a washload of old tea towels or rags in the vinegar, or for preference just tease the soap drawer open a little and pour in about a cupful vinegar as the washing machine is filling. (Not too far open or you'll have water all over the floor!). That way you get nice hot vinegar throughout the wash cycle.
- You can use brown vinegar for this tip with no problems, and asda (for example) currently sell this at 17p for 500mls as opposed to 50p for the white vinegar.
- It is recommended that you do a maintenance wash at your highest temperature once a month.
- It worth noting that if you normally do low temperature washes and use lots of fabric conditioner and are not doing maintenance washes that a first application may only clear some of the gunk that builds up and leave your machine smellier than when you started - but after another go (or two) this should all settle down.

Thanks Squeaky I'll give a go over the weekend (it will probably need a few goes actually because it is very wiffy and making the clothes smell too)0

In my every increasing attempt to save money without cutting corners, I have tried in vain recently to find any white or cider vinegar. Ive tried Morrisons, Asda, Tesco and Costco without any success. Can anyone help please? Are they not on sale in the supermarkets because they know of their cleaning properties and therefore, detract customers from buying any of the branded cleaning prodcuts?
Cheers

Cider vinegar is usually with the other vinegars. In Tesco it in the same bottles as white wine vineger. Cider vinegar is a culinary vinegar, it's too good for cleaning with, but apparently very good for you.0
