How do I stop Virgin media junk mail

Its a fact of life that you will be sold to, mail in the post, adverts on tv/radio and billboards pushing products. This is the world, change channels, re tune the radio, don't look at adverts in the paper and finally put junk mail directly into the bin. Next problem.....0

The trouble with advertising is the more we ignore it and avoid it the more companies have to advertise to get our attention, as well as the concept that we're only able to notice so much advertising each day (seems reasonable to me?) meaning that every increase in advertising dilutes the effect of other advertising, so the companies who buy advertising must buy more and more to retain the same amount of attention. Our world is fast being covered in advertising.
I can see the frustration and it's more than just junk mail perhaps. I keep getting calls from EDF (I don't buy energy from them) every week. The lady on the phone last time was really not responsible for this, but I had to tell her that it was too much. If every UK energy company I didn't buy energy from called me every week I'd be getting multiple calls a day, while if every company I could possible buy stuff from but didn't called every week I'd need to install more phone lines and get secretaries to handle all the calls!
Advertising has genuine value to us, but it may all be getting a bit too much. It may just be a matter of wanting to have more control over just how much advertising appears in our everyday life, which may in part present itself as a frustration with junk mail?0 -
Cheggers,
Try re-directing the junk mail to:

Virgin Media normally target houses directly - those that either can get cable because the street is wired up, or to houses that have previously has the service.
As for postman delivered rubbish, opt out via the link provided above with Royal Mail (involves a form coming out in the post). This thread has prompted me to renew my opt out - it expires after two years and I now have a daily tirade of rubbish streaming in.0 -
I came across this thread because I've been wondering the same thing for the last 2 years.
Once a month, almost like clockwork, I receive unsolicited junk mail from Virgin Media. It is usually a large A4 envelope containing a letter and a brochure, addressed to "The Occupier" at my address.
I have tried at least 10 times to get them to stop sending these - and still they come! First I used to telephone. Each time, they would assure me that I would not receive any more. I stopped bothering with that after the 5th month when it became obvious it was never going to be true. I emailed a couple of times, and my requests disappeared into the ether. Finally, returning the mail to the address on the back of the envelope appears to have the same effect, i.e., none whatsoever.
It has become like a game, and I am determined not to give up. Having just received this month's instalment of utterly uninteresting rainforest-depleting dross from them, I have now written to their registered office to give 14 days' notice that I am introducing an administration fee for processing any unsolicited mail they send me. The fee is £10 per item, and they signal their acceptance of the conditions by sending me further unsolicited mail.
I realise we are in a period of financial stricture, so I also offered them a bulk discount. The second and subsequent items in any calendar month will qualify for a 20% discount.
Can't wait to hear their reply!0 -
Why the hell not just let them waste their money monthly and just chuck it in the bin? But I'm repeating myself.
Poking a behemoth like Virgin with sticks really won't make any difference although I suppose it might give you a sense of self satisfaction. However, 'twill be like the mating of elephants to get anything done I reckon. All carried out at a high level accompanied by predigious quantities of noise and dust and take two years to produce results.

I get it to my OLD address, AND my new address (cancelled and went to Sky when we moved house - which we're happier with than Virgin). Double dose every month, plus "the occupier" stuff!Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0

In which case you wont receive the mail :j0
