  • I recently purchased the Groupon offer but have had trouble even getting the software to work.

Has anyone come across this before:
Could not create the application support directory 'C:\Users\Steve\Application Data\Smiley Hippo Photobooks\' ?

    Thanks,
    Steve

I am a new member to MSE forums but I can assure you that does not detract from my intelligence before any of you regular moaners make sarcastic comments. Just because someone takes the time to reply with a positive comment does not make them wrong and I can assure you that someone with the time to write over 5000 posts has no more valid an opinion than me, just more time on their hands. I received a photobook from Smiley Hippo this morning and it was lovely, it was good quality and the images were much nicer than those in other photobooks i've bought.

My opinion is no more (or less) important than a new member with one post. However one may be suspicious that this is a post from an employee.

I am pleased that you had a good experience, but many of us did not.

Missile, there are 20 comments on this thread and only 5 are negative. Not really 'many of us' is it. The rest of the comments are either positive or from you accusing people of being employees.

Believe it or not I've had another book since my last post and I still haven't had any problems.

You are misquoting me and your arithmetic is a bit iffy.

Circa 50% of those who have used Hungry Hippo reported a problem using the software and / or getting timely delivery. I rest my case and hope a.n.other MSE readers will take note. However, as I said, I am pleased for those who got good service :T

  • I found this forum because I was looking for the SmileyHippo home page to check out the latest products and google showed
"Smiley Hippo photobook cheap but not cheerful "

Intrigued, I came to see what it was all about.

I think it's a well know fact that most people that are happy with a service or product and have no complaints, don't make comment.
On the other hand, aggrieved people vent their frustration at every opportunity.

So any attempt at rationalising whether or not it's a good company or product by counting +ve and -ve reports is basically flawed.

Anyway, I thought I would to do something I have never done before; reply to a forum.

I have installed the software on two different pcs and had no problems.
I've used others where the design of your album has to be done on line after uploading your pictures. What a painful process that was.
This is MUCH better. And with a little imagination you can do a great deal with this software.
I've designed and ordered four books without issues. All were dispatched and received within two weeks. I am hugely impressed by the books which are by any measure, excellent.

As far as service is concerned:
One of the books arrived with pretty minor defect in one image. It was like something (2mm wide) was stuck to one sheet of paper and it blotted that and the next photo.
All it took was a polite email to the company.
I had a prompt and polite reply, apologising and promising a replacement. Another, perfect book, arrived within a week.

I have no complaints with this company and fully intend to use it again.

Don’t be swayed by the negative comments. There will be many more people that are totally satisfied and haven't felt the need to comment.

I can't comment on SmileyHippo because I've never used them and can't say I ever will BUT how about some of you commenters who have had such excellent results and service from SmileyHippo offer some advice to Missile to help him/her get the photobook she/he ordered? Or is that just asking too much?
