I am now starting to think that some of the responsibility lays with them and am considering seeing a solicitor to see if they can get some fees, charges, discount or whatever but thought I would start here in case anyone had any experience or advice on this.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.
I would rethink your thought pattern. Going to see a solicitor will result in more charges and I would say you have zero chance of blaming your £25K signed for loan on anyone but yourself.

OP so you got the loan and £25k appeared in your account.
So far so good impulse buy!!!

Then I think to myself how did the money manage to leave your account?
Why did you just not cancel the loan and repay it?

Newbie or not you are just another chancer hoping to make something.
Good luck hope the solicitors fees hurt.

be kind to the op you lot, op you will pay me £100 k
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

What a load of rubbish ! I'll be kind to the OP though, OP, you have absolutely no chance whatsoever of getting anything back from anyone. This was 8 years ago for goodness sake !

The debt party is over, the music has stopped and its a hangover from hell but every single one of you who partied like there was no tomorrow have to pay the piper and i have no sympathy because i was the geek at the back who felt uncomfortable and could see it would all end in tears...time to pay...
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

It might have been difficult for the OP to refuse. I expect that the bloke in the bank had the OP's arm twisted right up his/her back.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

Haha poster of the month !!
Can I find out my credit score?
You do not have a single credit score or rating. Different organisations take different information into account when working out your credit score and may have different scores for different products. (Kindly from Experian)

I just felt that a £25k loan should not be presented as an impulse buy.

    Agreed

Bet you still enjoyed monking all the money

well theres a few in contention, theres the 1 who wants to borrow £4.5k whos only a teenager at 17 i think or maybe 18, the 1 who used some of his credit card balance to lend to a friend.

Back on topic, you chose to take the loan so whose at fault then ? you maybe, you could have left the loan as it was and called the bank to say it wasnt needed anymore(can this be done, never had a bank loan)
