Decided to buy an ordinary Travelex Cash Passport card from my local Tesco and pay the £2000 by debit card but rejected as 'Not Authorized'.Phoned bank and they said the stoppage was not at their end and so it had to be a Tesco problem. They suggested that Tesco complete the order by putting through 2 x £1000 but Tesco said not possible. Tried to pay with my Master card with same result! Tomorrow will withdraw £2000 from the bank and pay cash. Has anyone else had to go through this rigmarole? :mad:Abandoned0

Why are you putting yourself and us through this rigmarole??
You were told what was best, decided to go against it and are now asking us....0 -

You were told what was best, decided to go against it and are now asking us...........if anyone else had to go through this rigmarole?
You can offer all the advice you want to, but remember, it is only advice and it is entirely up to the reader to accept or reject that advice. I chose not to since at first sight, it appeared that to buy the card at Tesco was more convenient for me.Abandoned0 -
Going to Portugal in October. Hotel has quoted price in pounds to pay when I get there. How best can I do this safely?0

Why should you pay in Pounds? Pay them in Euros. Nothing else is acceptable to you. If they want Pounds in cash, then negotiate a discount and give them the cash.0 -

Now you can see that it is not more convenient for you. It doesn't seem that way to me.
So you have put yourself through an unnecessary rigmarole. Us too with all of these questions and added problems.
Just my opinion.
Let us know why it didn't work when you find out. How is the load fee?0 -

At the risk of being bullied but just to warn others. It would appear that if you are buying Pre-paid Cash cards, Travellers Cheques or foreign currency at Tesco, a limit of £1500 sometimes comes into play if you are paying by debit card. The way round it if the assistant does not know, is to buy currency or cheques in 2 (or more) lots. Although my bank was on the right track, I simply bought a card for £1450 and then topped it up with a further £550.Abandoned0 -
stilltheone wrote: »Now you can see that it is not more convenient for you......................Wrong! I now have the card and I'm happy, my wife is happy and if you are unhappy or upset because of my predicament, I regret that.
It doesn't seem that way to me............What doesn't? This does not make sense.
Us too with all of these questions and added problems....Sorry guys!
Just my opinion.
Only noticed this reply after I posted the last one.Abandoned0 -

I've no problem with what you choose. It's just that you were asking a load of questions about Travelex Cash Passport Globe and the airport and then you went to Tesco.
I'm not sure as to why you thought it more convenient. Perhaps you can enlighten.
It's just confusing.
How much was the load fee on the card? The way that you write it, there appears to be none.
So, has Tesco given you a PrePaid Sterling Card with no loading fee and no spending or ATM charges?
If so, it's the best deal of all.0 -

It's just that you were asking a load of questions about Travelex Cash Passport Globe and the airport and then you went to Tesco...............As I said before, any advice given here, (or indeed in any other forum), can be accepted or rejected and even 'the experts' cant disagree with that!
I'm not sure as to why you thought it more convenient. Perhaps you can enlighten..............Tesco is 2 minutes walk away.
It's just confusing..............No it's not! It is just that on this occasion, you are miffed that I did not agree with your advice. You win some, you lose some.
How much was the load fee on the card? The way that you write it, there appears to be none..................While you may be an 'expert' at giving advice on this forum, I am an expert at taking advantage of professionals who get it wrong. In the last month alone, I received monetary compensation in excess of £1200 from my bank, my insurance company, a large department store and my doctor. Tesco were most generous in dealing with their debit card error.
So, has Tesco given you a PrePaid Sterling Card with no loading fee and no spending or ATM charges............Wouldn't you like to know!
If so, it's the best deal of all.
"If so, it's the best deal of all"..............Having decided to ignore the advice given here, I cannot but agree. As a result of my 'rigmarole', I am now some $76 better off for my holidayAbandoned0
