i know you're all right, but I'm prob too chicken. You don't know how hard it was not to pay in the first place, so for me that's a victory. I've looked at all the letters they will send me and they've intimidated me before they arrive! I've not paid yet, so you've time to convince me!.....do you think from their wording that there's something a miss with their signage? ..... "however, in accordance with the terms stated upon the site signage, we are willing on this occassion to cancel the above Parking Charge Notice provided an administration fee of £10 is received within 14 days". Are they saying here that the sign isn't clear enough? Cause I'm miles away I can't check....Pamela2009 was yours the same car park - Albert Street Birmingham (open air) car park? Does anyone live near there who could photograph the signage? If so I'd feel more confident at turning their offer of £10 charge down?! Thanks
Stay strong. We understand how difficult it can be to ignore the letters and the threats. Our purpose here is to demonstrate that the pattern they follow is predictable and - importantly - that the risks of ever going to court are next to nil.

VCS and their sister company Excel Parking have not had a good year at court and have been thoroughly mauled. In their most recent outing a judge suggested to their solicitor that if she didn't ensure certain things were done she should bring her toothbrush with her when she came back before him. Besides kicking their case out the judge also ordered the MD of VCS - one Simon Renshaw-Smith to come before him and explain why he had issued proceedings in the case.

Why do you think you owe these people anything? Because they have sent you a letter? You paid for your parking and that is all that you could have been expected to do. Ignore them. If you pay up you'll just enable Mr Renshaw-Smith to buy his new yacht sooner than he would otherwise. This is how VCS make their money - from charging people like you for nothing.

Now chill. Go and have a cuppa/double shot macchiato/stiff vodka/glass of Merlot/pint of cider/a smoke (whichever is your chosen relaxant). :)
My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016). :(

For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com

Forget about that. Don't worry, you can relax now. Start the big ignore today and ignore some more. I ignored Vehicle Control Services (VCS) with 6 letters ignored over 4 months. Easypeasy, the muppets got the message. Thanks MSE :)

Thanks guys, I just hope they do go away soon, I made the mistake of replying to their initial "invoice", refused to pay them £60 & offered them their hourly rate as I felt that was all they were owed, am hoping that if it does go to court this will act in my favour maybe..hmmm, here's to hoping the letters don't become a court order

It won't become a court order. In recent landmark court cases (HMRC took Vehicle Control Services to court for unpaid VAT and VCS' appeal) the judges ruled that only the landowner (not their agent) can offer parking and take any alleged offenders to court. And the car park owners won't do that, as they won't want to get their hands dirty. That's why they employed a private ticketer. And they'd lose anyway, as the amount demanded is excessive, not their actual losses (if there are any) and therefore a unlawful contractual penalty.
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)

    Hi

I know this thread is a bit old but I thought I'd ask anyways and see what I can find out.
I myself recieved a parking charge notice from VCS (albert street parking b'ham) for not entering my whole reg. I appealed and they said to pay £10 but I ignored that as didn't feel I should but now I have a debt collection company pursuing me for £160! If I ignore the debt collection company does anybody know what will happen or does anybody have any advice?
    Many thanks :)

Rather than bumping an old, dead, pre-POFA thread with advice that is no longer current, why not look at some of the VCS threads that have been active in the last week or so?

Or even post your own thread and take advantage of advice tailored to your individual situation.

    Hi
I parked my car in the Albert St carpark, I paid for my ticket but unfortunately I did not put in the right vehicle reg, as I took the family car that day and didn't realise I put the wrong reg.
I have now received a fine of 60 pounds. The letter states 'parked without displaying a valid ticket / permit'. What can I do now? Worse thing is I threw the ticket away on the same day.
    Thanks

ABT, you didn't get fined and are you are hijacking an out of date thread - something you clearly agreed not to do as part of your signup.

Please read the Newbies Sticky carefully, then start your own thread for further help.

As ever, this is covered in the sticky thread at the top of this parking forum - which is why I wrote it. It tells you how to appeal (pre-written template letter, easy!) and then how to easily win at POPLA and explains what that is... :)

One click gets you to the 2014 threads and page one with the NEWBIES thread at the top. Just ONE click, as shown in my signature, tells you where the linky is. PLEASE DON'T ASK FOR A LINK.

YOU HAVE NOT RECEIVED A FINE. FAR FROM IT.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
