Car Park Ticket with Vehicle Reg

Has anyone been penalised because they did not enter their full registration on the car park ticket which they purchased from a machine?
I purchased a ticket in Birmingham and paid the correct fee, i only entered the first two letters of my registration and then two weeks later got a fine saying beacuse i hadn't paid the correct fee they want me to pay £60.00. I appealed on the fact that i had paid the correct fee and of course they are now saying i should have entered the full registration. There is nothing on the back of ticket under the terms and conditions to stipulate this. I have telephoned the company but you are charged 50p per minute just for the pleasure of phoning them. The do not want to listen.Just for you to pay.I am torn between paying and ignoring.
Anyone else had a similar problem?
Thanks Sorry the Company is Vehicle Control Services Ltd of Sheffield

You say company? Who is the company?

Who issued the ticket, council or a private company?

Hopefully she will come back and read the stickies 'PPC letters, what to expect' and 'welcome, please read before posting' and learn that her so-called 'ticket' from a company with a premium rate line is just a scam to ignore.

  • I had the same problem, probably the same car park. I went in put the numbers of my registration in (as I've always done in my local car park at home); I was visiting Birmingham that day. Paid for 2 hours, then came back and put on another hour. Got home later had a £60 fine which I'm so insensed about I couldn't bring myself to pay it. They linked my registartion to my car with ANPR system, and told me I'd only entered my digits not the full registration, so they know I'd paid but say fine still stands as that makes my tickets invalid. My argument is that they issed me with an invlaid ticket knowing my 3 digit car registration hadn't entered the car park! ...... If I'm in the wrong I willinging pay a fine, but this is just soooooooooo unjust. So i've not paid and letter said if I didn't it would go up to £90. Should I not pay anything and if not what happens next? If I get taken to court does it go on my credit history? Any sound advice aappreciated. Thanks
  • PS the letter came from Vehicle Control Services Ltd

Keep the ticket. If VCS did fancy their chances which is very very unlikely, you could prove that you paid. So no loss = no claim.

What you will get is a series of letters from VCS and some from a debt collector all which are intended to intimidate.

All can be seen here. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2214803 VCS are Excel they follow the same path.

Your credit file would only be affected, if they did take you to court, win and you didn't pay any order within 28 days.

    Simply ignore.

They have no power to fine you. You paid to park, end of.

Just ignore the 3 or 4 more threatening letters they'll send you.

If they take you to court you would be the first ever person VCS has tried it on with. And your credit would only be affected if your lost and still didn't pay within 28 days. You chance of losing in that case would be less than 1%.
  • Many thanks that's reassuring. if I'm in the wrong I don't mind paying. I have also just read for anyone in same boat, that if you weren't the driver just write and tell them and don't say who the driver was. In my case it's my husbands car, and cause I was so annoyed I wrote back immediately from me pleading my case, so they know it was me driving. Funnily enough though the reply came back address to my husband!.....ok I'll hold out . They need the monen to pay for the cameras watching you come in & out, the man walking around with his gun, and the Pay and display machines....it's like they are out to get you...1 mistake and bang £60 ticket. I not ever been taken to court but I so annoyed I aint going to pay em when I already paid em! I feel for little old people who might not even remember their registrations and would feel intimidated right away by letters arriving.......but thanks for the support - hopefully I'll be laughing at the end of this :rotfl:

Just endure the letter-chain of threatograms as shown in our top thread, do not be intimidated, do not write, do not ring them. Also look at the Watchdog paper aeroplane clip on the other top sticky thread 'welcome please read before posting'.

Once you have read those 2 sticky threads you will know the score. :)
