Please don't judge me based on taking my children out for one day. Don't care what you think, I am not the only parent THINKING of doing this..nothing wrong with our children, well rounded and educated - they are reaching targets for the years above them so no prob in that department thank you.:D
A strike on a Thursday is a major headache for me, as its my busiest work-day, and no childcare will be running. We've also got an extra 2 days off this year due to building works at school.

Going back to school for 1 day can be disruptive. It takes a few hours for them to settle after their day off, and then they are back off for the w/end, so I'd certainly consider it too.

And emmaanddave- enjoy your time. I posted about my son having a place at science summer school in the 6 weeks hols, via the gifted and talented register. I wasn't asking whether he should go, I would have re-arranged plans so he could he wants to do it so much and do you know what people said to me- don't send him to school in the summer hols.:D You couldn't make it up. :rotfl:

I meant no malice in my wording but assumed you were either forces or police. This is maybe where the conflict occurs.
In school, I have supported the strike action but know that the fact that there are so many unions and each usually has a different opinion, making it less a union, more a collection of 3 or more opinions.
You are entitled to do with your children as you wish and I would not interfere with anyones actions as long as they were not to the detriment of the child/ren.
If you follow through with this, I hope your children's teacher supports you, as I would. Enjoy the day and make it fun! :D

Thanks. I hope your son enjoys his time, he wont see it as school and if it interests him then he will gain much from it as well as mixing with other peers he may not know. He probably see its as a holiday club!

I am in no doubt they will put it down as unathourised but it will be their first in 3 years at school! Our neighbour takes her kids on holiday 2 times per academic year during term time. I wouldn't do that long!

Request holiday for the Thursday and Friday. Say you are doing something educational or visiting family etc. They will almost certainly agree even at short notice. You get the kids off school + their attendance is unaffected.

Our school has a policy of no days off or holiday during term time and only special occassions would be authorised. If it rains we wont be going anywhere apart from school on that Friday!:D

Ahh - the old 'bashing parents who take their kids out of school the odd day' argument. Gets my back up every time. Emmaanddave - have a good extra day off. I am sure your kids won't be scared for life. Just the same as the days school closed with 0.0001cm of snow blah blah blah.

Lets get it in perspective. A day off school at the end of June will not make a jot of difference to your child's education. All GCEs/GCSEs are over and done with - a couple of weeks before the end of the summer term is usually word searches or DVDs for the remaining pupils anyway!

Lets also take into account that most school staff do not earn anywhere like 'average' incomes (think dinner ladies, caretakers, cleaners, admin etc), most are on very little above minimum wage.

If teachers go out on strike at the end of June they have my support, if they went out on strike in the middle of examinations they would not.
