    Some, not all!
I am a teacher and although my union is one not striking, everyone who is striking has our full support. We also have staff in the unions striking, who are not going on strike. Yes I know someone will say about reaping the benefits of the strike while not striking, but many teachers joined the ATL (one of the 2 striking) for the reason that they had never been on strike.
As a profession, we need a union mainly for support if we were to be at the centre of any allegations from pupils.
Teachers are in a high risk group of dying 'in service' or very shortly after retiring. Working until 68 will just make this even worse.

Please don't judge me based on taking my children out for one day. Don't care what you think, I am not the only parent THINKING of doing this..nothing wrong with our children, well rounded and educated - they are reaching targets for the years above them so no prob in that department thank you.:D

It's not their education I'd worry about ;)

Well said, totally agree, and fully support it.

Don't judge me when you do not know me. I am a good role model for my kids. I don't expect everyone to agree. It is not the end of the world to miss a day is it, they are too quick to close the school for strikes, snow etc so one more day will not hurt them - let's be real here.

I'm entitled to my opinion, and based on what you wrote, is how I formed it!

The school will close for a reason, whether you agree with the strikes or not. Snow closes schools for a reason! You being petty and keeping your children off because of tit for tat isn't a valid reason, and IMO doesn't set a good example to ones children, to be seen being petty. If that's how you want to conduct your life, go for it, but don;t expect that others will agree!

If you valued your childrens education, you wouldn't play silly games!

Am not being petty just me and dh making the most of an opportunity. I value my children's education and am not playing silly games - they don't know we are taking them anywhere and will def not sell it as being petty - they are too young to see it that way - only people like yourself do.

Schools close for safety and for a good reason. Many schools will remain open, depending on which unions the staff belong to, or how many staff are striking. Ours will remain open but only 5 classes, with ATL or NUT members who are striking, will not be allowed to come to school. The rest of the staff and pupils will attend as a normal day.
Emmaanddave, I assume you do not support any form of strike action and therefore you are not either in a job where unions / strikes are allowed or in a situation where you do not need one.

I am not working currently, not that has anything to do with it. I have been part of a union when I was a police officer and my dh is currently a serving Officer and it also part of a union. We don't get the option of striking and if we did we wouldn't.
