    When is this ?

The teachers strike is scheduled for Thursday June 30th.

At our school, only certain years are going to have a day off, as it's 2 unions striking, so teachers belonging to other unions/organisations, or not at all will cover some of the chool years.

Yes it is a Thursday but if they close the school over a pension and pay debate and not worry about our kids then I am seriously considering taking them out on the Friday! I think a few parents may use this opportunity too!

Huh? Your kids suffer from missing a day of school and you are going to punish the school by making them miss another day?

well my 'average family' will loose its entire income for any strike days...which given we've had no payrise for 3 years, I've already lost my pension (via TUPE), hubby is having to reapply for his own job an I don't have one past Dec 2012 is not great!

We haven't been balloted (yet) but I won't be going on strike - complete pointless waste of time and all that happens is you save your employer a days pay. DH went on strike for over 8 weeks at the behest of Unison, who used them to prove a political point and then their employers did what they were always going to do anyway. x

So you're intending to scab if the vote doesn't go your way? What is the point of being in a union if you are not prepared to go with the majority decision? I assume you are happy to take any pay rises they negotiate on your behalf?
  • For this average family it'll mean I'll have a houseful of 11 kids for the day (teacher strike) as both SIL's work and so I'm the only childcare for them in such events... may have to draft in my mother to help LOL

DH is presently training for teaching so the changes to pensions for teachers won't really effect him as he'll be starting in the new system and never have known the benefits & security of the old system or rates.

Not punishing anyone. If teachers decide to strike and not bother aboput our kids then one day from us is not going to matter much is it. They can't have it their way all the time! No I am not in the habit of taking our kids from school, they are high achievers. They can't have it both ways.

Sounds like you want to have it both ways - complain that your kids aren't cared about and are missing their education then causing them to miss more to prove a point!

Well said. It makes my blood boil when people join a union (look up the meaning of the word) and then won't go along with the majority vote. If you don't want to be in a union then don't be, but those who leach what they want from a union then refuse to toe the line when the decision doesn't go their way shouldn't be in it.
If I had a pound for every pound I'd lost, I'd be confused

Not at all. I don't agree with the strikes in this capacity as it effects our child's education and if it continues there will be longer weeks in Sept, so I have heard. If they think it is alright to stop teacing for xxx number of days then they should not complain of we take our kids out for one day. That's all.

With respect that is a very immature viewpoint!
