RichardW,
The hotel is not selling to the 18-30 market, as 18-30 do not feature that hotel, neither do any of the other simalar companies (Twentys, Freestlye etc). It may have been that the some of the rowdy people that the OP was complaining about were booked through 1st choice / TUI themselves. And with the amount of bookings on the internet these days by passengers themselves, how on earth could you regulate who was allowed to book which hotel. I cannot say to a customer 'Oh sorry, you look like you are a p***head, so i cant offer you that hotel'..............
Even if, as the companies have done, the holiday is advertised as a 'family holiday', then you will still get youngsters / groups / individuals / those without children booking into the property if the price / location / availability is right.

Yes they can Dave.
All the hotel needs is to have a policy of families and couples only. If they cant guarantee that for FC , then really FC shouldn't really be promoting it as a family friendly hotel.
It really isnt good enough for FC to simply say, as long as we send only families to this hotel , there is nothing we can do.0 -

I totally agree.0 -
We went to Magaluf a few years ago to a "family friendly hotel" which i took with a pinch of salt because knowing magaluf as i do theres not really such a thing as a family hotel unless you ban singles and groups of youngsters staying at the hotel and they're not really going to do that when they spend so much money on drink. It was down the bottom end of Magaluf so thought the young ones might have wanted something a bit more central but it was the lower end of the price scale so was obviously going to appeal to them. What we hadn't accounted for was it was the first week in july and the university students had all just broken up, will remember that for next time. We had a good holiday even though 1 morning someone had s**t in the swimming pool and there were condoms floating in it,also 1 young man decided to run along the corridor at full pelt couldnt stop, ran into the fire escape door and landed on the ground floor dead, the hotel did a good job of covering this up hardly anyone would have known had it not been on page 5 of the sun newspaper.
I suppose what im trying to say is if you go to the parts of spain etc that are "lively" ie Playa de las americas, san antonio, magaluf, lorret de mar, salou etc the hotels are always going to be a bit noisy and attract some undesirables unless they are selective about who they let book in. But if Tour Operators are advertising them as family hotels, then the hoteliers should be more obliging im sure they wouldn't want to lose their lucrative contracts with said operators. After all if they can assure you of "adult only" hotels whats the difference to having "family only" hotels.0 -

Budgetflyer,
why should a hotel limit itself to who it offers the use of it's facilities. at the end of the day, the hotel is there to fill rooms and make a profit (whether we like it or not). If the hotel has facilities for children, fair enough it can be described by any tour operator as family friendly (as opposed to FAMILY ONLY). Any hotel (indeed any business) turning revenue away in this day and age is committing financial suicide. FC have stated that the hotel is suitable for familes probably because of the facilities it offer. as far as the rowdy 'club 18-30' style crowd, how are we to know that these were not 2 or 3 couples of a young age (ie 18-30 ish) who just happened to go on holiday together.
Totally impossible & impractical to police & enforce.I used to be a Travel Agent Used to be a travel agent for 23 Years, but now out of the industry. However I will help with what i can.0 -
TUI and their brand FC know very well that it takes a long time for a hotel to lose its 18-30 appeal, they simply should not have sold the holiday as a 'family' holiday knowing full well that 18-30 type customers were highly likely to be guests at the hotel and ruin the family appeal.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

everyone is entitled to their opinion and point of view but i personally think the above comments are the perfect illustration of why people should not ask travel agents questions but do their own research and book their own way. There is plenty of info on the internet, it takes 15 seconds to look up a set of reviews about a particular hotel/location etc0 -

True, but not everyone has the internet or even if they have access to it, knows how to use it.0 -

Sloth,
not sure what you are getting at there. If you read my earlier posts, it's clear that it shows i knew this used to be a club 18-30 hotel without having to research it. Basically, my 20 years of experience told me that.
As far as doing research on the internet, especially with sites like tripadvisor, holidaytruths, watchdog ect, well in my opinion if you were to take each review as gospel, you wouldn't want to go to 99% of the hotels in the world, as there are always people who will slag the hotel off left right & center just because, in the most cases, they had a little minor problem.
there's a saying i tell my customers when checking on sites like tripadvisor - Have a good holiday and you'll tell 1 person, have a bad holiday and you'll tell everyone.
Think about it!.
Perhaps you could explain how, especially in this online world we live in, a tour operator like TUI or TC's could possibly stop a group of youngster into a family property.I used to be a Travel Agent Used to be a travel agent for 23 Years, but now out of the industry. Richardw - it's not just the club 18-30 appeal. even if the hotel had never been a club 18-30 hotel, if it's cheap enough, people looking for a cheap holiday will book into it. After all, it's the resort that appeals to youngsters, not the specific hotel. For example, something like the Laguna Park in PDLA is a popular family property, and from what i remember has never been a club18-30 property. However if it's the cheapest holiday going for the dates, people will book into it - be they senior citizens, families, couples or the early 20's clubbers.
