For anyone buying the Aldi Super 6 sweet potatoes, here's a nice-looking recipe I came across...
    Sweet Potato Veggie Burgers
    http://kblog.lunchboxbunch.com/2012/...gers-with.html
(it is actually a vegan recipe)
Lots of other sweet potato suggestions on the same blog

  • Its been a while...! But car repair bills looming and resorting back to depths of the icebox..

Today for dinner had a frozen fish fillet and made some cheesy spinach alongside using frozen chopped spinach. Also thawed a bagel for lunch tomorrow

Morning all. Bit quiet in here lately. You all too busy shopping and trying to find space for the groceries? :p

Yesterday was a NSD apart from my hair, which I am realllyyyyy pleased with... but then I should be for the price.

Today I'm having cuppa soup and ryvita for lunch and tea is going to be the lovely sounding roast duck with orange and apricot stuffing. Serving with mash and veg. Hoping today will be another NSD. We shall see!

WB - kitten.. cheesy spinach sounds nice.

Like the look of that sweet potato burger recipe JB! Haven't read the whole blog bit yet so no idea what panko crumbs are. I'm still eating my way through my stash of hm/hg borlotti bean vegan burgers and I've been quite impressed with those/that recipe.

Lipstick, must admit I thought that sounded a bargain price compared to what I have to pay here :( unless that was just for a cut??

Not much to report here on using up stock, my kitchen and most of the flat is still stripped out, ceilings down, electrics partly out and due to unforeseen circumstances and more problems arising  building work has had to stop and I've no idea when it will recommence.

It's making living very difficult - have cleaned the kitchen again to be semi useable but all my pots and pans etc are all packed away so have mainly been eating toast when I've been here.. and a couple of ready made hm meals I had in the freezer. Lynsey - think you will beat me on that freezer emptying, sounds like you've not far to go! I've not really got much meal wise left in mine though, just bits and pieces and hg veg mostly.

Spends keeping to a minimum this week, prob £20 ish mainly just on salad/veg stuff for the pets but I will share depending if/what I'm able to cook.

That was just for a beard trim kirri :D Nah, was for full head of highlights by the top hairdresser, but I only got charged for half head.

Was a bit of a fiasco actually cos when I went in for a patch test, the receptionist refused to do it as I'd ticked I had a sensitive scalp and that they wouldn't be insured. I spoke to the owner and she finally said I could get it done using bleach with a cap which I wasn't thrilled about. When I went in to get it done the guy did it with the foils using the ordinary stuff. :D

Had to be the most stressful hairdo ever as I was panicking that the owner or receptionist would spot me with the foils in, so I was using a mag to cover my face. Also every twinge I got I was thinking I was going to have a reaction lol, especially when the guy was pulling my hair really tight.

So they tried to do the right thing, and ended up doing the completely wrong thing and doing my hair without the patch test! Had a right headache by the time I got home lol.

Ooh, glad it wasn't just me that didn't know what they were:) I went and googled it - it's basically breadcrumbs made from crustless bread, which absorb less fat than normal breadcumbs and so are healthier:
"Panko (パン粉) is a variety of flaky bread crumb used in Japanese cuisine as a crunchy coating for fried foods, such as tonkatsu. Panko is made from bread baked by passing an electric current through the dough, yielding bread without crusts. It has a crisper, more airy texture than most types of breading found in Western cuisine and resists absorbing oil or grease when fried, resulting in a lighter coating. White panko is made from bread which has had the crusts removed while tan panko is made from the whole loaf of bread. Outside Japan, its use is becoming more popular in both Asian and non-Asian dishes: It is often used on fish and seafood and is often available in Asian markets, speciality stores, and, increasingly, in many large supermarkets."
Most of the larger supermarkets and online grocery retailers seem to stock it.
And here's a video of how it is made

Lip_Stick, that is a bargain! We get ripped off down here! H&S gone mad, I guess they have to be careful but even so I'd prob not tick the box another time after all that palava.. Didn't know places still used a cap, lucky you got the foils though sounded a bit stressful!! I pay £145 for root tint, gloss and cut and that is cheap (half price) as home hairdresser rather than salon!

JB - thought it was going to be some exotic ingredient!! I did find when I was in Japan the bread was incredibly soft - had never heard of that bread or how it was made though. I did win a sachet of discovery crumb coating the other day, was going to give it to my mum but I guess I could try it on these as a replacement for the panko.

Having a change from toast at lunch - going to have toasted hot x buns instead today.. and will get out another hm bolognaise that's been sat in the freezer since about October last year, for dinner later.

the spinach was tasty! basically thawed in micro, drained, added some leftover grated cheese, splash of milk, s&P and then back in zapper for 30 seconds or so to melt cheese and warm through :D

    Afternoon all.

Been on a spending spree of sorts.

Went to my neighbors butchers and spent £7.12 for a rack of ribs and a Budweiser smokey honey bbq sauce, never tried it, hope It's nice.

Then went to Mr.t to see if they had any value mandarins and pineapples, they had none, but I got 2 tins of mandarin 2 for 75p and 2 tins of peaches value 29p also 2 sirloin steaks for 9.43 but got refunded 8.10 for the steaks in the price difference thing.

Then went.to Mr w and got white asparagus really want to try these reduced from 2.99 to 89p a broccoli and green bean combo, a pack of grape and melon,2 pastel.fairy cakes, 2 packs of sweet chilli premium sausages and a litre of cloudy lemonade £5.98 the sausages are yummy used as meatballs.

Steaks, sausages are going In the freezer, meat drawer is full.

Bought a rotisserie chicken for £1.50 yesterday and sandwich thins for 25p a pack, ood on 12th, a pack gone in freezer, had chicken sandwiches for lunch with the melon and grape and a fruit smoothie for breakfast using the last tub of the free greek yogurt taken out the freezer, a pear and Apple given to me by my grandma on Saturday and some frozen fruits of forest.

Having some chicken for dinner I seasoned yesterday, with rice and veg, going to pick off meat of the rotisserie chicken, freeze most of it and have chicken sandwiches for lunch for the next 2 days.

Running out of freezer bags, going to leave Costco meat stock up, until the end.of next.month not much room at all, I do want to get a few home made ready meals in freezer, i did put some stuffed turkey wrapped in baco. In freezer, only.enough for 1 meal.
