    I've been Money Tipped!
Morning all, looks nice here - long may it last.

Porridge I think today for breakfast again.
Chicken stir fry later. I might just bake some bread (loads of Wright's Ciabatta to use). Might try Sainsbury's later if passing, but only to buy "whoopsies".

"Won" £10 on the lottery last night ............................ well got some of my money back. lol

    Have a great day.

12 hour fasting before giving sample may be worth a try as the Nurse stated milk in drinks/cereals etc could make a difference. He is thinking of a "fruit day" and drinking water only a day before giving a blood sample (after reading up).
Interesting also that it may only take 3 weeks of a "good" diet to improve results.

Get him to try almond milk, I use it all the time. It's a bit darker than ordinary milk but on cereals and in cooking you would not notice any difference. Also it's very low on calories.

Tried porridge today for the first time... not keen so far!
    It's so sludgy...

    Any tips?
I used hazelnut milk as don't like cow's milk.
Even added choc flakes and sugar on top but it's still like eating a bowl of warm sludge.

I think it's a thing to get used to maybe...

Have only eaten about 1 spoonful - I don't even know how to get rid of the rest as don't want it to block the sink or leak out of my bin.

Had 2nd spoonful with just sugar - better
3rd spoonful with agave syrup - worse
  • I find porridge can be sludgy if the oats it is made from are partly ground up and broken and there's a lot of dusty stuff in the bag and box. I've been disappointed with most supermarket own brand oats in that sense, the only one I have found to be decent is the waitrose essentials brand. Also mornflake are good if you can get the big bags. Quaker too but they tend to be pricey. Meanwhile I use any 'duff' bags of oats for baking instead or the kids eat them as they aren't as fussy as me. Also I never cook it for as long as it says to on the packaging, instead I cook it just until the oats are turning a bit soft and absorbing the milk. You may want to use half milk (the milk of your choice), half water as well. Ironically your post has made me crave porridge but we only have the nasty Sainsbury's sawdust tasting oats in at the moment :( xx

Mine mostly went in the bin, what a mess trying to clean the sludge off the pan too..

I used Mornflake organic and they looked nice oats, bought new as the ones I already had in the cupboard I'd mixed with oatmeal so keeping those for baking.

Will try less cooking and half and half as suggested ^ thinking of trying vanilla milk (may improve colour too as hazelnut milk was sort of beige).

Wondering about adding in sultanas or something too or topping with roast chopped cobnuts or something..

Welsh Poppy.. ooh if there are any people from Yorkshire on here they call Yorkshire God's Country too. ;)

Kirri.. porridge always seems like soggy warm muesli to me. I was a chef in a country hotel for a while and as the owner was a whisky [STRIKE]addict[STRIKE][/STRIKE][/STRIKE] connoisseur and had a whisky bar, at Hogmanay we had atholl brose.

It's basically oatmeal soaked in whisky with cream and honey and yummy ;) Dates back to 1475 when the Duke of Atholl (and there still is one, with the last remaining private army in Europe IIRC) captured the Earl of Ross. Someone (forget who) drank this mixture (not sure I'd fancy that it's more like a deluxe muesli breakfast/pud).

OH has Sainsbury's SO organic express porridge which he says is fine if you use 2 sachets.

(BTW now added ASDA, Lidl, Morrisons, Sainsbury's and Waitrose organic offers up on organic thread)

zafiro1984 how did it go with the horse ?

I think I prefer muesli actually.. I've never liked soggy food or food with bits in growing up so it is more consistency but even so the muesli and yoghurt combo I've been having is pleasant to eat! as long as I eat it quick before it goes soggy..

I'm sure I could get used to it in time.. it isn't necessarily worse than my first tofu experience and I like that now. Maybe the whisky option may improve the porridge though!

I'd never have time to faff around with porridge if working too, though what is 'express' about the Sainsbury's one??
