I have been diagnosed with high cholesterol and high blood pressure both of which probably can be controlled with diet.
I think that must happen quite a lot, either health related, or more ethical shopping, change to veg diet or even just to fresher food. I threw things out when I went organic years ago including lots of expensive toiletries..
Hope you have a slightly better day today.ms_night_ryder wrote: »gonna head off for my walk soon, looks like rain is looming, but i have an umbrella
Must be heading your way, it's already arrived hereKirri - if meat wasn't meant to be eaten, it wouldn't taste so good.
Granted I never had a problem with flavour lol but I think if people had to kill/gut/skin it there would be a lot less attraction in it for a wider range of people. I can still remember my dad bringing home a dead rabbit with fur when I was a kidbut then I was the type of kid who picked out the tubes, gristle, black bits etc in any meat anyway!
Cornbread?? Does that use cornmeal?? Never tried making it but had it in America and it was nice.
Anyone notice improved digestion, veg food being easier to digest on Veggie Week? I bet you all can't wait till the weekend
I'm up for No Spend Week - I think I may have just done 2 weeks of no spends?? (albeit with emergency f&v ration delivered by my mum). Will have to check back. No wonder I've been running out of everything! Looking forward to Ocado delivery today like you wouldn't believe, they best not be late!!!
Anyone else have issues with the multi quote not working as it should, second time now I've selected quotes and they've not all appeared.. I may miss some things off now
Edwardia - Ocado have Evian on offer too though not sure how it compares - have been asked to put the pets on it so had to put in bulk order.
Really fancied fajitas today but Ocado didn't have any organic wraps, I'm too lazy to make them and I checked some and they were full of E numbers. May go to the Balham org shop soon and pick some org ones up.
Lynsey - It is a burden having a hoard! and frustratingly slow using it up - to think I am still using up things from when I started this last Jan and I never used to even stash things on purpose lol so dread to think what it feels like to have that. Oh for the days when I literally have just a few week's worth of dried items and am getting fresh food weekly... I'm getting there, probably by midway this year.0 -
Well it all going well on the veggie front for me. Yesterday I had veg bar b que cheese wraps. They were yummy! Today i've got a stew in the slow cooker as I need to use some stuff up. I think a challenge a week would really help me think outside of the box when it comes to using stuff up. Also, calorie wise, this veggie business is brilliant! XX2022 Comp total (prizes + free spins): £494.81 #20 £12 a day Jan: £382.95/£372 #57 360 1p challenge: £17.70 £10 a day Feb: £571.09/£280 March: £311.96/£3100

Have you ever tried fajita 'innards' on top of organic brown rice? I also love fajita stuffs on top of red lentils.
We are still trying to eat up all of the white rice here, and I'll definitely be getting brown rice instead of white from now on, it's just soooo much more expensive!
I was finally able to defrost our freezer yesterday. There are definite open spots now and there will be even more after this week. I'm not planning on buying anything else this week at all! I also reorganised our pantry that's under the stairs. It looks nearly naked in there now!
We will be having salmon, steamed broccoli, and white (ick) rice here tonight. I'll probably make fajita veg for tomorrow, again over rice to hopefully mostly finish it up.0 -

No I hadn't but will give it a go!
I do buy brown rice but admittedly prefer white plus it's quicker.I think a challenge a week would really help me think outside of the box when it comes to using stuff up.
I like that idea :T0 -

Oooo Kirri your coming to my area, I would suggest meeting for a coffee but a I don't drink coffee and b, do they do organic coffee? Oh yes the plantain, you won't find it in a store, but you can get it at the market or one of those Mediterranean shops.
I missed a delivery for something I'm guessing the jerk bbq sauce.
Just walked 4.4 miles go me! I am going to weigh myself on Saturday morning, my veggie week finishes on Friday, it has been fun, some great stuff eaten, I'm not debating making a lemon cake.

NSD so far, need to see what I've spent this month (Feb - I'm getting slack!!), but not that much and little needed.

Just popped in.. curious to find out why vet thinks pets should have Evian.. because of chlorine or the mineral mix ?
Kirri, some sizes of Evian are 10% on a Total Savings Pass with Ocado. Normally supermarkets will do an offer of 2 x 6 pack of 50cl size for $4 but Shorters Club had 24 x 50cl for 6.98 therefore I bought 48 x 50cl bottles for 13,980 -

I will check prices if continuing to order - I just got 12 large bottles for £6 which didn't seem too bad.. smaller bottles might be easier though..
Partly because they suffer with the hard London water for bladder stones/sediment from the calcium but also we are not sure of the source of the poisoning, I've been ill as well now, I am wondering if it's the water, thought it was more likely the hay but I haven't had that! I stopped using the filter tap temporarily but switched to mains tap water for past week (pig backed away from the bottle wiping his nose when I tried them on that, it must have been the chlorine smell!) and they have been on Highland Spring from what I had in stock but one is still very ill (albeit has just livened up and eaten some of my veg box!) and I got ill yesterday. Evian suggested as a good, soft water. I've not done comparisons yet though. I would normally buy a British one and I prefer glass bottles but I do really like Evian as well so I will share it for a while.
The Ocado order is so good after weeks of barely shoppingSavings of £22.09 on total order. The veg box is stunningly good, great value and quality at £11 ish, (normal price of £18) and even for a veggie there is a LOT in it, very fresh, and way more than I'd eat in a week! I could probably order one every 2 weeks and have plenty to eat. Got cucumber, pears and rocket as extra. Got lots of nice org dairy oops, oats and muesli to try for breakfasts with org vanilla yoghurt (bonus Ocado sent me 2 by accident instead of 1) and hazelnut milk to try porridge.. Some Tideford sauce as a rare lazy treat and org tofu, juice, choc rice cakes and plenty of flour and lots of Ecover. I should be on the other thread probably
MNR - I don't like coffee either lol - only in cakes!! I assumed wrongly that, in London, supermarkets may stock plantain - Morrisons has a very large selection of more unusual veg so may relent on my boycott and have a nose in there. Half thinking of a Brixton visit at some point too as there's a vegan cake shop I want to try so could always try the market there for it if I go.
Lynsey - breakfast tart and a £1 bra, your OH is in for a treat lol.0
