donnajt - wishes to you, take care.

NSD, but will pop into Aldi tomorrow for Super 6 stuff.

Took out black pudding for hubby to have with brunch, I have a little of today's meat to finish off. Think I'll have a bacon sandwich for breakfast though.

I'll have a proper think tomorrow regarding the veggie week. Hubby is ok and will have the Quorn stuff. I'll double up on eggs as I like scrambled eggs and omelettes. Think I'll need noodles also. I'll also see if there's any Linda Mc stuff on offer, wouldn't mind some pies.

Yes, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, really good books the two I have, good quality, easy, basic healthy food and in the Everyday book I love the way he does breakfasts and packed lunch items too. I do turn off if he launches into animal slaughter though but agree with his principles.

Wish he'd grow his hair back though.

Still faffing with my Ocado order - would prefer to have it on Feb's budget but as I've run out of a couple of things I can't wait too long, hoping a cheapish slot will come up for Thurs (veg box contents change from then I think too and think I will try one).

Cheers Kirri, I will ask my (veggie) mother if she has his books and have a look if she has before searching Amazon.

Seen fishfight videos and he did look a bit ditsy with curls, IMO have to checl out the short look.

Jelly Biactol the aubergine recipe sounds good ;)

I've got a half finished order on Ocado too. Yeo Valley yoghurts on offer are cheaper than Abel & Cole but when not on offer A&C is cheaper. Trying to avoid spending $40 to get yoghurt.

My mother has sussed out that one of the dishes we are making Saturday is baklava which pretty sure is (a) Greek not Arab and (b) none of us would eat - wish she had worked that out before I bought the pistachios and filo pastry :( none of us likes honey

I'm thinking of taking ghee to melt and brush filo pastry with, chop up some figs and dates leftover from Christmas, add in a few shelled pistachios, layer up stick in oven and call it done.

zafiro1984 you eat pistachios...if you have a Lidl might be worth having a look as my local one had huge polybag on Friday and you could buy pistachios by weight.

This one is good, even I have it and there's a lot of meat in it, but well worth it (or borrow from library to try it out?). I use it a lot.

Baklava is served all over, was big in Turkey too and that falls more into the Middle Eastern cookery? Would it work with organic mild agave syrup instead of honey, still sweet but not so much taste?

Decided what I will be having for the first vegetarian day, although I don't meal plan, I am looking forward to it.

just fruit for breakfast maybe a pancake or 2, lunch a vegetarian fry up of scrambled egg, fried plantain, spicy 5 beans and toast, dinner will be a sweetcorn chowder topped with tortillas, cant wait for that day actually lol, hope I don't change My mind by Sunday lol.

All I need to buy is some eggs, sweetcorn and tortillas, I have everything else needed, I will even get to use up a tub of veg stock that I made from the freezer, also i have decided i will not be having any meat substitutes and when the week is over I am treating myself to a huge meat grill :)

You're welcome and we are all here to support one another through thick and thin, good times and bad times.

Just had bacon butty and hubby will have bacon and black pudding with a salad later instead of a brunch.

Off to ASDA later for cheap spread (50p) and maybe some Sharwood noodles. Then Aldi for carrots mainly and a look.
Get my onions from Lidl on Saturday and I'm set.

Dilemma!! Anyone know if the Aldi Quixo meat gravy is suitable for veggies?? Nothing to say it is, but ingredients looks like it's suitable.
I don't mind just veg with gravy for a main meal and would be good for "veggie week". I don't want to cheat though and may get Auntie Bessies or similar.
I can get by without "meat and 2 veg" for a week. lol

Sunday first veggie main meal may be tagliatelle in a blue cheese sauce with mushrooms and possibly leeks (if cheap) or sliced red onions.

  • After reading recovering spendaholic I had a yog which I had taken from freezer day before so I made some muffins, just going to eat a couple now (only small cupcake size). They are great. I have a habit of buying yogs when reduced for when gs comes to stay, and then I forget so have to freeze them. Many many thanks.

Morning everyone, not had a chance to steal DS2's laptop so not been on much. To be fair he is studying for exams at the moment without me encouraging (nagging:)) so can't complain. Also having a few issues with inlaws being a bit judgemental in how I live my life but hey ho, all part of the fun. This thread moves sooooo fast though. I'm thinking of treating myself to a tablet or notebook with the money I saved on shopping last month.

Meal planning's going well but I've spent just under a third of this month's budget already eeeekkkkk! Not getting a lot of bargains but visiting my parents this weekend and my dad is King of the yellow stickies, so will no doubt leave with a bag full of goodies.

Jelly - loving all the veggie recipes. I'm going back to copy and paste them in to a folder for next week and see what one's I've got ingredients for.

This thread is really keeping my spirits up, even if I can't post, I always read when I get on. Off to catch up on what you've all been up to.

    Take care x
