I include cleaning stuff plus toilet rolls in the £25 a week.

That's fantastic then and a great commitment. :T

Toying with dropping the fake meat reliance which would be healthier and cheaper..

I was thinking the same myself; at the weekend, spent £6ish at Mr S and two-thirds of that was 'sham ham' and the like

As you say - need to start with a stock plus be committed to cooking from scratch.

Yep it is expensive, now I'm wondering how much I spent on it in 2012 although I was mostly only buying Quorn on the £1 offers. I may go through my spreadsheet and check now :o

Think I will make a much bigger effort, as much as I do like the odd burger/fishless finger etc... to do more cooking with pulses this year - the HFW Veg book has so many recipes I've not tried too. I'll maybe just buy fake meat as a treat or something. Wonder if that would work..

Thinking I probably need to process the stash from the allotment into meals in advance though so I have ready items if working/busy etc.

Usual breakfast and elevenses here. Lunch today was fried off left over roast potatoes with mushrooms - LW Al.. SS, baked beans, 1/2 slice HM bread toasted and 1/4 tin baked beans. They were Al.. baked beans pepped up with hot pepper sauce and garlic granules.
I used the tiniest amount of oil possible in the pan. ;)

I sat down and costed out the basic shopping on $25 per week using organics and can't be done. I tried posting it up but OH's laptop wasn't playing ball.

I could do the milk, eggs and yogurt, so mine and OH's weekday breakfasts plus his lunches at work for just over $20 but that didn't leave enough for veg and topping up the freezer for dinners and weekday breakfasts.

That would be interesting to know, maybe as a %age. I'm not as organised as that, unfortunately:)
the HFW Veg book has so many recipes I've not tried too.
I like the HFW tv programmes but have still to be convinced by the books after I was flicking through his 'Three Good Things' and the first recipe actually had 18 ingredients:doh:

The Quorn Southern Style Burgers are my 'fake meat treat' at the moment:drool:
