Kirri - managed to get some BBQ Jerk sauce from that FB page this morning, so ty for that. Re: Superscrimpers... 20K on food!? What on earth did they spend it on???

Ditto canspendnomore, I'm so glad I don't eat it given the price of meat  I'd probably be having meatless days anyway!

I should probably have gone for the coconut milk on second thoughts, but I was in a panic decision in case it ran out lol.

They were mainly eating junk and lots of pizza/takeaway - think there were 5 of them but still 4k each per year!

Good luck with the dill sauce, Asda currently have the biggest and nicest bunches of dill I've seen in the loose/bunches section not in the bags (pets LOVE it).

Jak - that's not too bad for two, I will probably only spend that per person amount the rest of the month now - sounds like you have plenty in stock at least!

jak - welcome and good luck. I don't think that budget is bad to last the rest of the month if you have a decent 'stash" as you just need to buy basics to make meals etc.

I think eating meat, when getting cheap meat is cheaper than being a veggie. lol
Not as many veggie bargains and fruit and veg is getting expensive ............. unless buying on offer or reduced.
You veggies will never convince me. :D

Kirri - I can spare you 3cm of snow easily ....................... grab it quick as thawing rapidly ........................ but skies are still full.

Lip_Stick - yes, maybe 1 week a month for a strict budget. How about £10 for the 1st person in the house and 50% for every other person?? Or maybe £10 for each adult/large child and 50% for smaller kids.
I could do a £10 or £15 week challenge every month.

Pork casserole on and making some bread, half a packet in bread-maker now.

I need cheap basmati, so on the hunt.

  • Well I'm not vegetarian I love meat! Get in my belly! Lol

Had porridge today using the rice milk I have been avoiding lol, it tasted as normal, almost dared myself to drink a bit lol, but it was looking like dish water or skimmed milk, its only a litre so should be finished by the end of the week.

Having a meatloaf baps for Lunch after I have been on my walk, I have taken out the last pack of 2 cod mornays for dinner, dont know what I will have it with, I finally finished the Christmas bag of potatoes yesterday, maybe take mash out the freezer. Only carrots and pak choi left veg wise, will need a top up soon. No snow here sadly.

Lynsey I'm up for a mini challenge, next month? For a week?

Guess it can be, though before I gave up meat, and that is a very long time ago, I was buying organic meat so it's maybe just as well I don't have to pay for that these days! It can be cheap as veggie/vegan if not relying on fake meat items and relying on dried pulses etc.. but for ease/convenience etc I do buy them..

Guessing you are hoping it clears quick!
  • re - supermarket veggie meals/food...
I've never been that impressed with the Linda McCartney range, to be honest.
Quorn is OK but a bit pricey, unless it's on offer.
The Tesco own-brand range is pretty good; better than Sainsburys IMHO; and better than Morrisons, if you have a store near you.
    Do Aldi/Lidl do own-brand veggie stuff? I haven't looked.
    :)

You might be best making an inventory of your freezer and cupboards so you can meal plan?

I've made a cupboard inventory, and carry the list with me so I don't accidentally buy stuff I already have.:)

A weekly meal plan is next; more years ago than I care to remember, as a student in a shared house of four males, we used to have a weekly meal plan, shop in bulk and take turns in cooking for all of us, and our total budget was £20 a week for everything.:T

Hi everyone, well it's been a mad few days since I've been on. I've had internet problems at home and so busy as work this is the first chance I'm sneaking:) I hit the shops at the weekend and spent nearly half my monthly budget bbuuuutttt I did get enough food and whoopsies to probably last me the next few months!

I don't know if I'm actually tackling this challenge properly because I did want to clear the freezer and cupboards but knowing what I have in each and being a bit more savvy in the supermarkets I'm saving sooo much..... and I just can't pass up the bargains!! Even only meal planning a few days at a time is working well.

oh quick question before I forget. Those that keep spreadsheets, what do you record? I keep a notebook in my handbag and record all food shopping purchases each month - date, supermarket, amount spent. I was thinking of transferring this to a spreadsheet but it works well and at the moment all I want to know is how often I shop and how much I'm spending each month I feel it's pretty pointless but I'm interested to see if there's something I'm missing and can pinch!

Happy to report no snow in Stirling and hope it stays that way!!

It did and snowed heavily again and now bright and thawing again. Trouble if it freezes over-night!!

Organic meat yes, expensive even when "whoopsied".

That's a great way to save in my opinion. You don't need to buy full price stuff because you have your "stash", so if only by reduced bargains for a later date, then it's win, win, win.

    I could manage that for a week ..................... bl00dy expensive though. :D

Bread made, casserole gone and took out last of hot cross buns to toast.

Hoping for that Groupon tomorrow when picking MIL up (see what weather's like). Milk needed tomorrow and that's all really.
Just sorting the foodbank stuff for next week and need some cornflakes and custard powder to max it up a little.

Had hubby on the [STRIKE]hamster wheel[/STRIKE] treadmill for 30 mins and read what he needs to eat. Munching on Thornton's myself, but he's not getting any ................... his health comes first. lol

Brilliant! Yes, health first and all that! Got to buy eggs and milk today. Going to take money out for a food purse so I don't end up using my card and overspending. I'm going to do an inventory in a minute and figure out the food plan up til the 23rd when I'm Aldi shopping x
