Beef Stew and dumpling day today!!!
  • When I didn't eat meat, the only Linda McCartney things I like were the cheese & onion plaits. Everything else, esp the sausages, weren't very nice.

I have 5 days off in a row now, yay! Yesterday I used the chicken carcass to make chicken noodle soup in my slow cooker. On the hob, I made carrot and corinander soup which is the best thing I have ever tasted... fact!

Had a treat dinner yesterday as we were so cold, fish & chips.
Now I am employed, lets get rid of this student debt! :D:D

Morning all and lots and lots of snow here. Snowed quite a bit last night and more through the night, so a few bad days here!!

Bought some frozen diced pork last night from Sainsbury's @ only 50p per pack. I noticed this last week, but no stock. Anyway, 3 bags there yesterday, so I took them for casseroles. Filled some freezer space, but an investment.
Have a look in the freezer sections in Sainsbury's, some great finds at times.

Edwardia - sorry for not replying, but yes the black forest ham was from Lidl - half-price offer @ 99p per pack and good quality.

NSD today as not going out ...................... hubby will be going out though to clear the snow. :rotfl:

Welsh Poppy - well done on more weight loss, you're very focussed.

zafiro1984 - take care and we can do another "challenge" at another time, maybe a 1 week one for ALL of us??

Pig day today - bacon sandwiches and pork casserole. Wish I had bought the diced pork before taking out the pork steaks.

    Yesterdays spends = £3.82
    2013 food spends = £23.44

Can I join in? I've got a huge amount of bills to pay this month so I need to use up the food I've got rather than spending money on more! I did a fresh aldi shop a few days ago and I won't be buying anything except milk for the next 8 days. Then i've got an aldi mystery shop for £4 which i'm hoping to use to top up for the rest of the month. (I'm very skint!) Tonight we are having chicken and corguette skewers with brown rice, lunch is JP with beans. I've made a ton of veg stew and soup for the freezer and i'm also trying to lose weight. Today I've got to buy eggs and milk but apart from that nothing. My aim is to buy 2 4pts of milk in the next week, those eggs and nothing else food related. Wish me luck. My grocery budget for the rest of the month is £44. X

I'm veggie too. I prefer Quorn, but it is not milk free so we have Linda Mccartney stuff now which are mostly vegan. Quorn said they have a new range coming out that was milk free so will see what that is all about.

I was eating a lot of Quorn before the vegan month experiment - it is the best tasting but wish it was vegan. The new Linda Mc range is mostly not even vegan which is disappointing. I've tried a lot more Redwoods and Fry's items since and also Taifun which is organic. Wish there was more organic vegan ranges though as it would help me reduce consumption overall even if I buy the odd non vegan thing.

Lynsey, I'm jealous of your snow, up to 3cm was forecast here but absolutely nothing when I woke up!

May go out to get bird food and fruit though I fancied a walk to the shops in the snow. Only buying enough to keep me going for a few days though as will try and get to Waitrose later in the week as prefer their stuff.

Welcome jak :D That's a small budget, good luck with that - how many are you buying for?

Morning all. Internet is still cutting out for a min or so at a time, and is reallyyyyy annoying me now. Should ring my provider but I just know it's going to be a faff about, so will wait til I've a clear head lol.

Ds is having an ear examination so picking him up for lunch and taking him to kfc for a change. Tea will be salmon and pasta with a creamy dill sauce. May need to get some garlic bread to go with it as we're sharing the one fillet of salmon. Will definitely need to buy dill, or it'll be a rubbish dill sauce lol.

Quite a lot of veggies on here... you should be ashamed of yourselves. All those animals that won't experience 'life' because you're not eating them. :(;)

Kirri - managed to get some BBQ Jerk sauce from that FB page this morning, so ty for that. Re: Superscrimpers... 20K on food!? What on earth did they spend it on???

Jak.. welcome to the thread. Good luck with your budget! How many of you are there?

Lynsey - I like the idea of doing that challenge.
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.
  • Given the cost of meat, surprised ordinary people can afford to eat it these days. I would definitely blow my budget if I ate meat!

I've still only spent £17.89 on food. I can't believe my resolve!

Found a free app on my phone to track my food budget so that's made it easier. I always forgot to write it down!

Had a lovely lunch yesterday. Found a cheese sauce in the freezer made with proper cheese (before milk I tolerance last March :-S), added a few bits of small cauliflower broccoli and confound a small JP. I've not had a decent cheese sauce since March,DH doesn't like it, DS can't eat it. It was very yummy.

Might cook a Lentil soup for dinner as I have loads carrots and Lentils. Also have some peppers so a mixed bean bake might be on the cards also.

Hello all. It's just me and my little boy. He's 4 and my Mum pays for him to have hot school dinners so he just has a sandwich, fruit and porrige (which he's obsessed with! Like Oliver here!!) when he comes home from school. I've got loads of freash stuff and the freezer and cupboards are rammed! I need to eat uo what we've got before buying anymore. The budget is basically the only money we've got til the end of the month so it is tiny BUT will HAVE to do or I can't pay my rent! Ahhh! Hence joining the challenge. I will have a larger budget next month thank god but still need to be really careful as I tend to bulk buy enough to feed a small army when I go shopping! I'm doing slimming world so I need lots of fruit and veg but hopefully my groaning fruit basket will see us through a week til I get to the shop again. I need to not go shopping so much and meal plan which I've started to do. In my freezer I've got enough stew and soup for my lunches for the next week, also loads of salmon, chicken breast and home-made chicken casserole etc. so even though my budget in uber tiny I'm hoping it will suffice!
Thanks for the lovely welcome X

Jak, you're quite similar to me then. It's just myself and my boy who is 5. He also has school dinners but I tend to give him what I eat for his tea, as he's so skinny, and needs beefing up. Honestly he looks like an Auschwitz victim. Quite funny when he asks 'Do you like my muscles?. :D

You might be best making an inventory of your freezer and cupboards so you can meal plan?

I always buy whoopsied meat, that's how I can afford it lol.

Is it an iphone app or smart phone?
